I just SOLD a domain for $1300 to an Attorney!

Hey Warriors,

I purchased a domain from a GoDaddy Auction 3 months ago. It's a nice attorney domain (in a major U.S. city). I setup a simple WP site and got it ranked #5 on Google and it gets decent traffic.

2 weeks ago I got a list of 100 attorney emails for that city and emailed them a quick sales pitch.

A week ago an attorney emailed me and made an offer of $1300 for the domain, I didn't make a counter offer - I just accepted his offer

I bought the domain for $25 + $200 for SEO.

I wanted to share my success to motivate you and spark new ideas!

TAKE ACTION WARRIORS!

Good luck,
Ahmad

Congradulations on the sale !!!Question would you consider hosting the site or mainting the site for a monthly charge on top of the sale ? Might be a good way to earn some additional money.

Yes I've sold several domains so far like this , if it's going to generate me a nice profit I'll continue this method as a revenue stream

This is a valid way to earn and most likely could have been a higher price but, at the end of the day if you are happy-that is all that matters.

So what did you have on the site? Just an article or what? Did you upsell them on a new site and auto responder for the new domain or just sign over the site and that's it? I would have asked for double or triple what they offered, offered upaells of web design and monthly seo as well. Def more ways to earn with this but nice going regardless. Great investment huh? :-)

I def could of asked for more but I have 10 other domains like this that I'm in the process of selling, so I'm just flipping them for a quick profit + I have the potential to upsell on each client.

Just a one page site. I'm going to upsell him on monthly seo services, social media, hosting, and a custom Wordpress theme for his law firm.

Good Job! One of my business models is creating service oriented websites (painting, electricians, etc) in major us cites, getting them ranked in the top 5 and LEASING them from 100 to 300 a month. I think this is a better model because I get the recurring monthly income + I retain all rights to the website so it is considered an asset. If they decide to stop leasing it, I move on to another client!

Thanks man! Yes I've flipped several sites like this and have 10 more I'm in the process of selling.

I plan on making an additional $200-$500/month per site from SEO and hosting.

I am currently doing this method as well. Ranked 2 city website + lawyer to #3 at the moment. I am going to try to sell ad space on one ($100 a month regular ad, $350 full website rental) and sell the other. I feel if you can get $350 a month rental, yes its not $1,300 but it'll be $4200 for the year. Make the site work for you. Good share tho!

This is really a good idea, I was thinking to do something similar also focused on local domains but my plan revolved more around the concept of a directory and the charge for listings, but both these ideas (the sales and the lease idea) are far better, simpler and a lot less work .

It never ceases to amaze me how 2 minutes at this forum can make such a positive impact, just love it! Thanks for sharing atrbiz, I am sure some us will be profiting from this idea.

Awww yes a great business model if done right as well. You can do the same thing again w/o the $200 for seo. Pitch the name itself next time and just throw in a wordpress site if you have to. Generally I sell JUST the domain name so that way they can do with it as they see fit. Either way money is money good going!

Nice...good luck! Yes I could of rented it out BUT I sold it to him for $1300 plus I'm going to sell him on $400/month for SEO, hosting, social media. So that'll be a nice monthly residual

I agree but since the site was ranked high on Page 1 I was able to sell it faster because it's already getting traffic, etc. Either way profit is profit. Thanks!

      Hi Lori,

I purchased the domain from a GoDaddy auction, setup a basic 1 page site with content and got it ranked Page1 on Google then sold the domain to an attorney for $1300. Plus I setup a meeting with him for this Friday, I'm going to upsell him on ongoing SEO services, social media, and a WP site for his law firm (so could be an additional $500/month plus $1000+ for a website.)

      Thanks,
      Ahmad

Hi Ahmad. You did say that in your OP.

Very nice. Congrats. I hope you get the additional services from the law firm. How big is the firm? If it has managing partners, it might be a good idea to make sure they (or the decision makers) are present during the meeting.

Thank you! I'll find out tomorrow if he decides to bite

It's a small start-up law firm, with just 1 owner. Luckily I don't have to sell to a team of managing partners!

I have my own team of link builders/VAs that work for me. All SEO work is done 100% manual. Blog commenting, social bookmarks, and some other strategies ...pretty much manual link building + onpage optimization.

The site received 110 visitors the last 30 days (based on G Analytics). 2 new clients per month (from the website) would be an amazing ROI for my attorney client.

I was wondering, what wordpress theme do you recommend for a simple 1 page website.

Do you have a webiste that I can take a look at just to get an idea of what the website could look like while getting it ranked high in google?

I use a custom one we developed inhouse. but you can use any standard WP theme or just html site, as long as you have a site up with content + solid onpage seo.

just do google searches for other highly ranked attorney websites and that should point you in the right direction. i didnt have a contract for this sale, just a purchase agreement/invoice.

    Good luck,
    Ahmad

Also - I wanted to ask, and if you could share, what was the terms of the transfer?

I think it would help a lot of guys here, including myself to prepare for the eventualities that may occur when trying to close the deal.

For example, did the client want guarantees that the site remains up there for 6 months otherwise a refund?

Did the client want full transfer of the domain to them? etc.

Did they want future SEO services?

Can you tell what sort of sales pitch did you use?
You can PM me if you do not want to share it opnely.
I am targeting a music niche and will definitely make some good use of this advice.
        Thanks'

        Hi Shane,

Honestly I have a very direct approach when I deal with prospective clients, I send a basic email pitch and offer the site for sale. I make sure not to make it spammy. I send it directly to their name, etc.

        Good luck,
        Ahmad

I have an attorney web site also on the first page of the big "G" I want to do just what you did, only one thing how do you contact them by email without it being spam?
It's a risk for sure because my email could be considered spam I guess but again like I said when I send emails I make it personal and direct. So that def helps. Good luck!

I sold it because I'm in the process of flipping 20 other sites. Plus I can hook them on a monthly SEO plan.

Terms: They own the site, it's 100% transferred to their hosting account, no guarantees of rankings, BUT I ended up selling the attorney on $500/month SEO service so it's super profitable

I explained to him that if he doesn't select the ongoing SEO service he could easily lose his rankings and a competitor could take his spot. I was just blunt and straight forward (which is my selling style).

        Good luck!

    Great job!

Would you mind sharing details of the keyword you ranked (e.g. competitiveness and # of local searches)?

Thanks! The keyword gets around 800 exact match searches per month. It's now ranked #3. It's obviously not high volume traffic but super targeted and if my client gets only 1 new deal per month its a great ROI for him. He's already gotten 1 email so it's a great start

      Kevin,

Can't share my exact email but I can tell you it's a quick short sales pitch with the clients name in the email, etc (not a spammy generic email). Try out a few different variations and keep tweaking! Best of luck!

Hey - thanks! Yes I have several attorney websites I'm in the process of developing and re-selling. Definitely a nice ROI.
