Second Postcard Campaign (1st Campaign bombed)

I am about to embark on another postcard mailing to build leads. Unfortunately my first campaign (50 postcards handwritten) did not return any results. So I decided to do another campaign this time I am using click2mail and hope that I will get results.

I am offering a free report through a toll free voice mail and I did this for my first campaign.

What are your recommendations for my new campaign?

Details
Last Time I targeted my middle market: 1M-2.5M 50 postcards, I did not know if they were advertising

This time I am targeting businesses that are spending at least 20k on advertising and have 2.5M to 5M in sales (100) postcards

    Couple of things here Mike,

    1. You need to be phoning companies of this size not sending a postcard to the receptionist in the hope that she will pass it to the Sales Dept who will take umbrage at your message.

    2. In the real world (ie outside of this type of forum) saying you can double the sales of a $2.5m turnover company in 90 days makes you sound silly.

You said yesterday that you didn't have any business experience and it is evident when you write things like this.

Just increasing businesses turnover by 20% can double operating profits.

Here is a very very simple (not 100% correct) reason why to give your mind some food for thought.

Company do $2,500,000 with fixed costs of $2,000,000 leaving $500,000

20% increase gives $3,000,000 with same fixed costs if it is conversion you have improved (there would be fulfilment costs as well hence my comment) leaving $1,000,000 or a 100% increase.

To say you would double turnover would give $5,000,000 leaving $3,000,000 which is a 500% increase (x6 is 500% hopefully you know that)

See why a business owner would just toss your card in the bin?

Just to reiterate there would be increased costs on the fulfilment side plus commissions paid out etc so the above is not correct but 20% increase in turnover would result in a massive increase in operating profits.

Chances of you doing this for a $2,500,000 minimum company is almost zero. If you could you certainly wouldn't be sending cards out, your phone would be red hot.

Start small. From little acorns mighty oaks grow as they say.

Or if you prefer, start at the back of the queue and stay in it, eventually you get to the front.

    You'll get there.

    Dan

Jimbo13 is on the right track.

For companies that large, I send specific packages to them and follow up with a warm phone call. I get a much better response than from any other method.

The other thing to consider that a quantity of 50 is far too little to judge response.

If you were going to mail 1000 postcards and get a 1-3% response, that would be 10-30 leads.

        But 1% of 50 is .5.

    Hey Mike-
Congrats for taking the jump but for one, you can't mail 50 and or 100 post cards and expect an accurate measurement. 1000 would be more of an accurate test for any mailings.

Plus, if dealing with multi million dollar businesses, then a post card is definitely not the best way to go or if using postcards anyways, then use them as 2nd or 3rd follow up, not from the start.

Plus, I'm going to take a guess and say you probably just mailed those postcards to the company and didn't even target anybody, am I right?

You would be way better off...

Getting the leads, calling to see who would be in charge of their advertising or marketing department and specifically addressing the envelope and message to them if targeting large company.

If mailing small business owners then you get the owners name and send.

You want to be sure you come across as professional and show how you can help them. If you're balling on a budget and can only mail 50 or 100 at a time then definitely do it right or your wasting your time and money anyways.

I use something with small mailings that has a 100% delivery and open rate with small and large businesses and definitely very profitable, but definitely would never get that kind of results if just mailing a few postcards.

I don't know what exactly your post card copy said and congrats for trying but definitely need to think about what you're doing now and make it worth your time.

Whenever doing anything, you always want the best return on investment and you want to make money from your efforts and not keep losing it.
