Google Places - Ranking in multiple Cities

Hey guys,

I searched but could not find anything on this topic. I have a client (windows, siding, etc) that wants to get ranked in google places for multiple listings. Their office is in the main hub of the state capital so I think I can get them ranked in their main city fairly easily.

They do work from their office in downtown, all the way to the state border and want to get ranked for their respective keywords in the major cities along the way. Has anyone encountered this? I am at a loss.

They can only get ranked in GP in multiple cities if they have a physical address and a unique phone number in those cities.

You may get them ranked without that, but it would only be a matter of time before they got delisted or banned.

The method I use to get my clients great ranking in other cities and for other products are websites aimed at those keywords.

If you use the "service areas" option in the editor for Google Places you can specify a service area radius from your home office or you can pick counties or cities (and maybe states?). You can also select an option that hides the home office address which is applicable if the customer does not come to the office - the customer is only served at his/her location, for instance.

Yes and no. Truth be told, if it is at all a competitive niche, being in a different city, even if its close puts you at a big disadvantage. You will find that even those who are poorly optimized will outrank you, just because you are so far from the centroid. My strong suggestion would be to read a post by Nyagoslav Zhekov titled Google Places Phone Verification Workarounds.

      Good luck!
