Anyone try magnetic signs on their car with success?

I believe it is worth a shot. I am not sure of the numbers but the more you drive the more people who see it. It will attract that small niche of dog owners who need treats for there dogs more than likely. Give it a shot! If it doesn't give you a good ROI you can just keep it on your cars eventually someone will see it and call.

Haven't come across this type of advertising material yet but there are a lot of transit ads that you can see on different vehicles nowadays from taxis to buses and different public transports.
If you're after product awareness then this is an effective way to advertise as a large number of people see your ad day in and day out.

One word of caution: if you have car signs, and especially if you have them on a SUV or van where you can't see the interior through a window, and even more so if your business suggests the van may have expensive equipment inside, you're inviting break-ins.

Also check out those business card cases that sit outside of your car. If you are out shopping and someone sees your car add on the side, the business card holder will have cards they can take as well might help out more.

Well this is an area I can actually provide some expertise. I am an in-house designer for a tourist attraction and we do all of our own marketing, etc. One of my favorite jobs is designing wraps for our vehicles. We started with magnets but I can tell you, they are a major headache.

First off, on the sides of the vehicle they are virtually invisible. As one poster on here already stated, you want the signage on the REAR of the vehicle so it can be viewed while in traffic or at a red light.

Second, they fall off frequently at high speeds. If any dust or other grime get behind the magnet (which happens if you switch vehicles frequently) they are very susceptible to falling off at highway speeds.

Third, they WILL damage your vehicle. They will scratch the paint if you keep taking them on and off (again, if sharing between vehicles). If you keep them on one vehicle exclusively, then the paint will fade on the rest of the car but not underneath the magnet. Kind of like your walls when you take a picture or mirror down after several years. I've personally seen this happen to vehicles in a little over a year.

Last, they just don't really grab attention anymore. People have become so accustomed to seeing them that they really aren't as effective as they used to be. Very similar to "banner blindness."

I suggest using either vinyl letters in the rear window or better yet, you can cover your entire rear window with a special perforated vinyl that can have a printed image on the exterior but you can still see out of it from inside. This is my "expert" recommendation.

Full-size images that take up your entire back window but still allow you to see out of them? Now thats the way to go! Plus, its still new enough that people will take notice. You can contact any local sign-shop and they will take care of you. You should expect to spend around $100-$300 depending how crazy you go with the design. If they try to charge you more than that send me a message and I'll make one for you, designed and shipped to your door for $275. They are relatively easy to install as well. Youtube should have plenty of videos showing how to install these. If not, I can help there too. I use to work for my dads contracting company, we didn't have magnetic signs, but we had lettering on the Tahoe windows (both sides of the rear and on the back hatch window). We always had people coming up to us at gas stations asking us for cards or flyers. This was for construction, though, so I honestly have no idea if it would work well for your business.

Is it worth a shot? Hell yes. It's a nice way to put your business name out there, none the less.

Maybe someone can help me out... I was going to do this for my appliance business. I know two people who have signs who haven't had any problems, however I once spoke to a lawyer who stated he had to go to court and fight various cities who were trying to ticket his client because he didn't have permits for the signs on his car. I thought that was the dumbest thing I ever heard because it's there car and they should be able to do what they want with it. He stated it was because he was providing service in those various cities and didn't have permits in all those cities. So he told me to be cautious. Anyone know if this is true or not or if he was just blowing smoke up my ass? Thanks all

A friend of mine does piano tuning and had a decal made for the windows of a piano keyboard. It worked well for him.

I liked it so much I left it on when I bought the van. I was driving in Los Angeles, and he got a call from someone who saw "one of his vans" down there.

And just driving it around town brought him more business.

But I also think the piano keyboard decal was very unique and attention gathering. I'm not sure a regular magnetic sign would get the same effect.

Back when I was doing handyman services I had a magnetic sign. It gave me the larges job I've ever been hired to do. It also gave my friend a flooring job is larges to date. Yes, this was the same customer. I asked him how he got my number, he said,"the door magnet." Only draw back I ever had is with the door magnet customers expect to pay a lower price for services. Bummer.

What is your USP that differentiates yourself from the competition? That is what you should incorporate into the design of your business vehicle. I would go along with many on this thread who have suggested a window decal or vinyl wrap for the vehicle.
