This question is asked so much.

I will PM you programs from the WSO section that can do this.

I don't spend time increasing my post counts, I am not here either to do it

Do you think you can evaluate or estimate my knowledge based on my post count ?

Those WSOs are pricy! Just thought there was a nice, free way to do it...

So far googling this: site:facebook.com/pages "city" "state" fan page
    seems to work ok.

Then maybe refining it by category like:
site:facebook.com/pages "city" "state" restaurant fan page

That was the only way I knew how to do it BUT was hoping someone had found an even better method like scraping local Manta listing and then filtering to see who has FB pages. Or if someone had software that could scrape Facebook pages by city.

      PWK2000, You're a star!

Was doing things the heavy duty way, trawling through websites and looking for links. Dunno why I didn't think of doing a specific, very tightly-defined Google query like this. Duh...! Thanks for the tip.

For those who haven't got the $140+ for Places Scout yet (and I'm happy to reiterate that it looks like an amazing piece of software!), the Google query method can still yield hundreds of great potential leads if you're willing to invest a little sweat equity. Especially for those who wish to contact companies to offer online services like SM/SEO marketing.

      My technique?

Well, let's say I were targeting potential clients based on the keyword phrase "Los Angeles Dentists", I'd run this query in Google first...

      site:facebook.com, "los angeles", "california", dentist

Then I'd run the exact match keyword query in a separate browser tab...

      "Los Angeles Dentists"

Finally, I'd double-check which of the dentists listed on pages four, five, six and beyond for this keyword, were ALSO listed in the FB query.

Boom! You've just found a pile of potential clients who already "get it" as far as Social Media marketing is concerned (which is why they've got their page up on Facebook), but they need some extra help to get to the point of significance... i.e. page ONE of Google!

That's your prime market right there.

With an hour and a half of data mining, I usually come up with about 20 potential clients/companies to contact.

      Blessings and success people!

A little confused by your terminology.
Facebook fan pages are NOT owner verified whereas Facebook Places are.
So is your program bringing back data from FB places pages or FB Fan pages.

Do you have any knowledge as to what percentage of overall businesses are listed by Manta?

Overall looks like a monster piece of software. Will look at it again in morning.

There are a number of options available in the WSO section. From high end scrapers that will get custom data, to already scraped for you data.

      Eddie,

Yes, the terminology is definitely confusing...and i'm not sure that even most people on WF understand the difference between a Facebook Places Page and Fan Page...i've bought some major WSO's that call the FB Places Page a Fan Page...so in order not to bring up any confusion i figured that i would just call them fan pages as well.

My software will actually bring back both, depends on what it finds first. Usually it does find a FB Places Page first, then it gets verified status of that.

Right now FB is pushing businesses to merge their Fan Pages with their Places Pages, so i'm guessing as time progresses the Places Pages will be more prominent for business that have a location than Fan Pages...especially with their push to get people to 'checkin' to businesses.

As far as Manta goes, most businesses have Manta listings...i'd say well over 90%...but not all listings have a business owner name associated with it...but the majority do. Manta is a huge data aggregator and they have some form of data on for pretty much every small business in the US.

      Hope this helps.

If you don't see a link to Facebook page on a local business website then its almost obvious that they don't have one

    I hope that helps

Even now many of business owners doesn't know how fanpage can work for them.
Better to ask them straight a way.

I suggest you ask businesses using emails or fax marketing.
