My Plan is too send them all out and after they have been delivered "Delivery Confirmation ". Give them a follow up call too "Make sure they received it"

All excepted.

Direct mail can be great if it is targeted and your piece stands out and gets read. I have no idea what you sent or what your experience is with it. If you read some stuff by direct mail gurus you will see some of the tricks and tips they use.

But if the direct mail piece didn't get their attention than maybe a cold call alone would have been best.

The key is to find what works for you. Remember in the beginning it will take time.

But just the letter in a normal envelope is proven not to get noticed you need to put something in there to make it stand out like foam padding they will wonder "why is this envelope squashy?" and open it.

I have found that our open rate for direct mail is greater when we hand write the businesses address on it, it makes it seem more personal. We than follow that up with a phone call in about 2 to 3 days after they should have received the letter.

the best thing that you can do while sending direct letters is try to write the name of the business owner on the letter, that requires proper back end research of your target market. most business tend to forward letters addressed to the C.E.O or Chairman Directly to the Secretarial Channels. here the content matters. now you need to be able to follow up and here is where the content will require accurate facts and figures.. the more professional your work the more you will maximize client response.

Tara- best bet to get leads addresses is through a list broker. They're experts in providing lists, however their expertise comes at a price. I've been recommended specialistms.com for an American broker. Currently looking for a British broker..

Tedpeterson- I love the string letter. Iowa's introduced to it by Joe polish who uses it for collections.

Bingo if you offer free knowledge you not only are the expert in their eyes but they want to pay you back for the info.

Add a 24 hour recorded message to the mail piece. Answer all objections upfront and call it something along the lines of "The 5 biggest dangers facing all..."

Direct mail requires one to send out thousands of mail pieces in order to get a significant response

Hi Guys! I am also considering this. What would be the best way for me to get the contact info for specific business' in my area for example... day cares? I also want to do a direct mail campaign for my client. How would I go about getting residental adresses for their local area similar to what the penny saver does?

    Thank you!

Ive sent out thousands in one drop, and tens of thousands overtime. I never found direct marketing to be as effective. also, prices are going up now so its extremely hard!! I even used targeted lists.

I have tried direct mailing before. Always do a follow up call about 2-3 days after they got the letter. Make sure they got it and read it and build off that. Make sure to really have a good call to action and tell them to call you for a appointment or some sort. Also have in there that you sent out this same letter to all of his competitors so he better act fast before they do!

    Hi,

I have used a lot of direct mail in my own business and it continues to be the second best income producer in my marketing arsenal. As a matter of fact I have a big mailing campaign set to go on Black Friday.

Here's some tips and strategies that could help you with your next direct mail campaign.

    1) 1 letter is is NOT a direct mail campaign. You need multiple steps. My Black Friday mailing consist of 3 letters, then a postcard, then a follow up phone call.

    2) Use teaser copy on the envelope. Make sure you use a live stamp and hand address the envelopes.

    3) You should use some kind of a grabber at the top of your letter. For example on letter 2 I use a long thick piece of twine or yarn that will also make the envelope bulky. This builds their curiosity and they have to open the letter to see what's inside.

    4) Use Headlines to grab and hold their attention and get them to want to find out more. Mine is: Here's a string for your Finger to remind you that the Deadline to save $150 on our Direct Mail Secrets program is right around the Corner and you need to Act Now to avoid Missing Out!"

    5) Use a Lot of REAL Testimonials! You can never have too many testimonials. Be sure to send them with every letter you send out.

    6) A Strong Call to Action! In other words ask for the sale! Your customers are like Homer Simpson, laying on the couch with a beer on their belly. You have to tell them exactly what you want them to do!

    7) Be sure to include multiple means of response. Good ones include your order phone number, Fax Back order form, website order page, etc.

    8) InfoUSA.com is great place to buy your list. Or you can build your own list with Google, Online Directories, Local Chamber of Commerce, Phone Book, etc. Keep in mind this will probably require some phone calls to make sure you get the name of the decision maker for what you are offering.

    9) You should constantly be building your direct mailing list. That means collecting the names and mailing address of every customer who buys from you. Then you want to stay in constant contact with them. You do this by sending them at the very least a monthly print newsletter through the mail.

    10) You want to figure out the best time to send out your direct mail campaign. The mailing I have scheduled for Black Friday has been on my marketing calendar since January.

Direct mail is a huge topic that I could go on and on about for days and still not cover it all. It is an art form that deserves your careful study and implementation in order for it to be effective.

If you need more help with direct mail pm me and I'm sure we can work something out.
