Played a marketing game Saturday
I was flying to another city to pick up a vehicle I purchased online, well, the car deal went South and it was not as described by seller which lead me to vacate the deal and get my deposit back.
I catch a cab back to the airport from the notary office, about 5 miles from airport, and walk in to buy a ticket home. This resulted in a 4 hour delay.
After going through security, I went directly to the bar and ordered dinner and a few glasses of wine. A middle aged couple sat next to me and as usual, we start talking about what we do for a living. I explained many things but was very excited to talk about the online world and marketing, ect...we spoke for a couple of hours and I decided to head to my gate.
Prior to leaving, I gave the bar tender a few hundred dollars and picked up their check, complete strangers-just a random act of kindness. I left and flew home......the next day I found an email from the man thanking me and telling me how great it was to hear better ideas to market his company than his own marketing team has been providing him for his national company.
We evaluated his website from my phone and it sucked which I pointed out in a very nice way.
We emailed each other a few time and he asked me to consider helping him with his online identity both local and national. We are talking dollars and have yet to determine exactly what I will do however, this looks to be a great contact being more than 4 figures to start.
I am just saying to others, be yourself and make a point of making an impression every chance you get, it can be worth it every time if you let it.
