Buying from competition

What are your thoughts on buying from competition?

ie. you have a product or service and there are potential competitors selling it in your area as well - and instead of adopting the "I do my own race and push you out of the field" mentality and buy the product from elsewhere, you adopt a mentality where you instead negotiate good deals with your "competition" and resell their products as your own.

Benefits, drawbacks, potential pitfalls?

I believe there is plenty to go around in many situations...

As a sole proprietor of a computer service business, I would love to have someone who has complimentary skills - so that I can actually take my wife on vacation for a week or two and not worry about my clients.

I won't say this is easy to do for everyone... but it's all about your attitude when it comes right down to it.

Needed some cable run through an old hotel. I won't do it any more. Talked to a buddy who was working in another city, and he picked up the job. We traded business from then on, and it was good.

So yes, you can do it when the 'deal' is right and you have a straight shooter on the other end of the rope.

    Hope that helps...

Or you can buy from them and see what kind of info they are giving out and then create your own but never copy them.

A lot of people do this.

You can even get some great ideas from their sales page and create your own.
