It seems that is business person feels that they are getting enough searches and leads through Yelp and Citysearch.

One thing that you can do or what I would have done, would have been to agree with him that it is great he is #1 in Yelp and Citysearch, and then I would have shown him how many peolpe are searching for those same keywords in Google, and ask him if he would like to be #1 in Google also.

And if he tells you no, then let him know that X amount of people are searching for his keyword phrase, and by not wanting to rank #1 in Google he is basically handing customers to his competition.

If he is not smart enough to realize that he is handing his competition customers by not wanting to be in Google, then move on to someone else.

Remember you can't sell everyone, nor should you try to

This is definitely a feasible approach. Showing the demand is the best way to go about this. If they're bound to feel any urgency to supply the demand this will seal them. Just make sure you take enough time to write it out in a way that encourages them to want to make the new addition.

Also, I'm not picking on you by any means but you may want to make sure that you write in good English. If you were to write them in the way that you did on the thread they will most likely turn up their nose.
