Need Ideas! - Help our non-profit preschool.

My daughter's preschool is doing a silent auction to raise funds for the school. and today we went around to businesses in our town to solicit donations for the auction.

A few of the businesses didn't quite know what to offer, one restaurant gave us a $20 gift certificate and a coffee shop offered a bag of coffee beans. Which is great...

We appreciate anything they can offer, but I can't help but think we could do this better. That we could come up with ideas for them that will increase the perceived value of the item being auctioned AND help them generate new business.

I had thought of maybe a certificate from the restaurant that would encourage the holder to bring a new client, or something like that. Or, what could we create with a restaurant that someone might pay $50-$100 for but cost the restaurant a fraction of that?

What kind of ideas could we present to business owners that would help them get just as much or more, when donating to our auction?

Some of the businesses I'll be hitting up tomorrow are: restaurants, coffee shops, chiropractors, acupuncturists, antique shops.

Any advice for us?

Thanks WF!

  • Just Google Fundraising Ideas.

There's a ton of sites offering ideas for fundraising for schools, etc.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers,

@JMB thanks for responding! Yep, I did that and I found a lot of ideas like: hold a silent auction for your school!

The reason I posted here was to get ideas on how to refine the donations so that it turns into valuable marketing for the business, and they're more apt to donate something with a larger perceived value to the bidders.

Unfortunately, I haven't really come across ideas like that on Google... yet.

    Thanks!

    Ah ha!

"how to refine the donations so that it turns into valuable marketing for the business"

ASK THEM (the donating businesses) how they would go about doing this, if they were in your shoes. This gets right to WIFT.

You can have a bake sale with the restaurants and coffee shops participating.

Or better yet, every first or last school day of the month, hold a 'Career/Business Day' with different careers/jobs each month. This month could be about the cooking business with caterers/cooks/bakers/etc. giving out lectures about the restaurant/cafe/cooking business or demonstrate cooking to the kids and having bake sales.
