How did I create a $5k monthly income in exactly 9 days, and why am I sharing this???

Greetings, Warriors

It's been a while since I've created or replied to a thread, but I've kept my eyes on the good ol' warrior forum closely enough to stay in the know per se.

Anyway, as the title says. Yes, I recently created a $5k per month income stream by way of local marketing. This is not some precursor to sell you something now or later for that matter. I don't create products in the IM space, so worry not about being pitched. I simply wanted to share this story for 2 reasons. The first as a caveat, and the second as a means of direction and inspiration.

Now, before I share the goodies, I just want you guys to know this. I've been marketing online since 04, and I do have experience. I fraternize with some of the most prominent, well respected marketers many of you know. I don't name drop, so don't ask. I say this because I don't want to mislead you into thinking I sprouted out of nowhere and magically created this additional $5k monthly income, and I'm some whiz kid with all the answers. NO, it didn't happen that way. It took 9 days after the 7 long years of learning how to become an effective communicator had taken shape. It's a result of what I call "blocking my skills", and it's a method I've used all these years I learned from a true marketer indeed back when I first started, the late great Corey Rudl.

Basically, what that means is. I didn't jump from one technique to the next because it seemed to work so great for somebody else. I didn't care about who made $10k in a day, because of this all new method of acquiring customers, or purloining somebody elses traffic, etc. What I did was learn the essential business skills I knew would forever aid me in every facet of business no matter how shiny the object being dangled in front of me was. Here's the point of this thread, warriors.

I made sure I learned the principles of communication and selling first. I built upon my skills in blocks at a time. What do I mean? I didn't look left, right, or any other way for 30 to 60 days sometimes at anything but effective communication. Once I'd felt comfortable and confident in learning that segment of business essentials. I'd stack that block in my mental utility shed for later application. Then I'd move onto the specifics as to what ever it was I'd be engaging in. Whether it be speaking at a conference of an audience filled with financial sharks or, selling high end coaching memberships, donating significant money to a campaign/charity, etc. No matter what it was. I would focus on the essentials needed to totally be the absolute best communicator in that particular endeavor.

Inevitably, doing such practices over the past several years has allowed me to pretty much go into any venture and garner results so many struggle with. And boy let me tell you...people struggle from the neglect to master the basics more than any other reason at all. Offline or online, it doesn't matter, folks. The bridge between you and the income you desire by way of local marketing, IM info marketing, webinar marketing, etc. Is all contingent on your level of effective communication, period.

Since this is the mobile marketing forum, I'll be specific. As of the recent...Ummm, 18 months or so. It's been an emerging trend to hop on the bandwagon of local marketing and cash in on the modern day gold rush as it's been touted. Here's the thing though. Each and every single major successful man or woman teaching you these things are darn good communicators who didn't just happen to get into local marketing. You'll find that they did their homework in learning the language to speak, the angles to take, and the methods necessary built on marketing principles that would entice prospective clients to BUY.

Yes, it was easy for me to go out and acquire the 5 clients out of the 8 I'd spoke with about utilizing my company for their local online marketing. Easy from the standpoint that I didn't read a system, script, or hyped up email telling me to hurry up and do this, say this, send this to local clients before it's too late. No way!!! What I did was operate from principles, and use the advent of technology to my advantage. Because in the end, the people we speak with have not a clue of how vast the internet goes. And if you walk in there to present your internet hot local mobile deal in the language they don't speak....You LOSE, period. Instead, work on your communication more than anything, folks. Learn to speak their language, and what works well in their world, and then tie in what our world can offer them if done correctly. I promise you, if you do this, you'll be less inclined to operate from a place of fear loss as though business are going to run out, and you'll operate from a place of perpetual abundance like you wouldn't believe. Because in the end, the person who wins is the person who's most understood by the business owner, period.

Now, as a personal note. I've challenged myself to create a $10k total brand new income stream by my birthday which is Oct 2nd(this coming Sunday) I have no doubt I'll do so with flying colors. You guys feel free to ask me any questions as to what I'd suggest you do in going about building your local business or any type of business for that matter. I've done it, and I'm living proof that no matter what comes along. Mastering the basics is what makes you rich. Not "secrets" as you're told constantly in our world of IM. Ciao, and I hope this made sense, because I just did this on a freakin' Ipad...lol.

I am just now wanting to get started in offline marketing. I have realized I have a skill set that local business need. We both win, I bring more customers and I build a business. I like helping people.

      This is my problem:

      Approaching businesses.

With this said, in your experience, what has worked best for you? Cold Call? Spark up a chat in a bar? E-mail?

I mean, I know how to talk to people, I am personable, and I know "our language" as you put it.

When I start talking about topics I know well, I get excited and ramble on. Now, I just finished my "consultants" site, I was wondering what yours looked like? I am so use to building "affiliate" sites. Could you PM me your email, and let me send you my site and get honest feedback?

What I want to make sure I have in place is a website (which I literally finished moments ago) and possibly a business card.

      LAST TWO QUESTIONS, I promise ;

Did you incorporate your self as a business? LLC?

Do you write contracts for a year, or month to month, and how do you make sure the contracts are "legit"?

      Thanks,
      Ryan

        Ryan,
I am doing local offline consulting as well, but I don't really have a website for potential customers to go to. I have acquired all of my clients through mutual friends and then referrals. Yes, I meet with them face to face.....no problem since that is what I do on a daily basis with my current full-time job.

So my advice to you is to jump in there and get your feet wet - first with friends of friends and branch out from there. It kind of goes viral after you get started and the cool thing is that YOU get to choose who you want to work with.

        Just my 2 cents...

    Hey Markvsc,

    Thanks!

My assumption was "if I can't close a lead, I can leave them a website where they can still contact me in the future".

Nice to know it can be done without one - I have a friend or two in management positions in business, so I will talk with them.

    I appreciate the feedback.

    angmoore,

I did indeed, my friend. I knew I would though. Thank you so much. That was a thread I'd started in another forum, but felt it's value would be just as appreciated in this one. Hence, the birthday goal.

    Keep rockin' : )

    Congratulations on your success.

This is one of the most valuable comments I've come across in regards to Offline Marketing in general, anywhere.

i wholeheartedly agree that communication skills are what gets you thru many passages as you just said. Something I tend to struggle with at times. Care to endorse any great books that teach these basic skills?
