Who's Afraid Of The Big Bad Role Playing Game?

I must begin by establishing a baseline of sorts. I am aware, and very appreciative, of those of you here that are current Role Playing Super Heroes. That said, I also appreciate the perceived challenges and the real challenges so many of you face with salesmanship, objection handling, closing, etc. On the phone or face to face.

All of us (no matter who we are), there are no exceptions, must prepare our thoughts, our presentations, our objection handling, in advance to their delivery! Throughout everyday, I practice all of these, and often with those I work with. How about you? I know from having been in sales management for over 30 years and having been in business for over 40 years, many of you wait until your are hours or minutes from speaking with a prospect before you actually realize you need to organize your thoughts. The time to do this is actually on a daily regimen of preparation by actually speaking the words into a mirror or better yet, with a role playing partner that will fire objections and conditions at you in a random order.

I am considering establishing a couple of focus groups soon, one for Role Playing Directors and the other for Role Playing Partners in groups. The venue will be video conferencing, live group video led by a Role Playing Director. Before I get too far into the architecture, I thought I would see what the Warrior interests and opinions might be.

If you are up to being a Role Playing Director, what are your thoughts about what the architecture and processes might look like?

If you are struggling (or want to hone your skills) with phone sales, gate keepers, appointment setting, pitching, closing, etc, what would you like to see in a controlled environment to teach and train you to the level of professionalism and confidence you desire and require?

Sounds interesting! Many people are afraid of role playing...this is part of effective sales training of course, and clients almost always object to it ("I don't need to do that; I already know what I'm doing"). On the other end of the spectrum are people like me who leap to try it out.

well I have more than 35 years experience in theatre, acting, directing, writing, etc as well as having managed a number of call centres where we did role plays as part of training so I would be glad to help.

        Hey kaniganj,
How would you see yourself in the focus groups? As a learner, as a group director? or Both? I see where the group directors could have their own director role playing groups as well as being directors of groups for learners.

Sounds like you have all the rights stuff Laurence. You could probably "Purr the whiskers off the cat"!

Well David, it wouldn't hurt if you wanted to get the Clown College as a client! Is your interest to Role Play for developing your skills for your offline prospecting, pitching, and closings?

As we can see here in this thread, we haven't set the world on fire with interest. Yet, in so many of the threads in the offliners forum, I read daily about the problems that can be solved by role playing and practicing objection handling, salesmanship, closing, etc.

I guess it's like we all teach others, "people don't run towards solutions, they run away from fears and problems"!
