New Google Places Layout AGAIN! Check It Out...

So it seems Google is up to their usual tricks of changing things up.

They seem to have changed the Google Places Layout design once again.

Not sure if everyone is seeing this or if it is only in selected areas. Please post what you guys are seeing.

Maybe it is a test?

I had read it happened on the 29th of Oct. in the U.K but this is the first time I have seen it in the U.S.

Is everyone else seeing these changes?

Same thing going on here in Portland, Maine.

On a couple I checked on it was the A spot then two normal search results then the rest of the listings.

I just did the same search, for Chicago real estate agent, and it still looks the old way for me.

Interesting... I wonder if this is a temporary thing they will soon be rolling out.

Try signing in with a Google account and see if it changes at all. It works both ways for me.

I just tried it with another keyword in another city and it does show up like your screenshot though. Weird that you see it for that keyword and I don't, but I see it for another one.

P.S. I'm always signed in with a Google account.

For sure. Constant updates, though it is job security for us. When our clients freak out, we just tell them, rest assured, I have it covered ;-)

This is kind of odd. One of my clients who has been #1 for about a year now is no longer showing up on Google Places for any of their keywords, but they are still #1 above Google Places. Their Places listing always showed #1 before this.

Check my post from last week about the new 'proximity lockout' algo. At least that's what I named it.
Sounds like that could be what happened.

I'm seeing the same thing. I noticed for some searches 1-3 google rankings show above the places listings but still below the top paid links.

I just searched a few niches around ATL and it looks like some of the places rankings are location based for your IP? I'm on a desktop with an old browser but it didnt really make sense for some of the google places to show, and it linked me to "current location "Roswell, GA" Which isn't where I'm at but another local suburbish area. I believe it is showing a more localized google places, or that's what it looks like.

Yea, I just noticed this yesterday where I am also.

Im not focusing any more on google places. Its a nightmare..... Now just trying to rank my clients above it..... if they suddenly appear on the map, so be it........

      • I blogged it a few days ago when they 1st started testing. But now it's rolling out to almost everyone. Full roll out started yesterday. I have one computer seeing red still and the other is gray. Some browsers show different results too. So it's still rolling out.

COOLEST THING no one noticed yet...

Mouse over the listing somewhere on the right until you get the right arrows. You know how it used to show a big preview of the web site?

Now it shows a small web site preview, a dedicated map AND A BUNCH OF INFO FROM THE PLACE PAGE. Several images, plus some of the Place page details AND 3rd party reviews and stuff.

So it’s like a Place page preview in a way.

Yeah, so many new changes in recent days from the google.. One update which got my attention is that Google Boot now can read the content from the Javascripts.. Those Facebook comments and other websites which have dynamic comment section, Google will crawl them.. Amazing..

I have a few theories on why the change comes and what exactly Google aims to get from it. I'll be sharing on my blog probably tomorrow

    I'm seeing it in Hawaii.

I wonder if they changed it to gray because the red dots were so effective at pulling the eyes from all the other ads?

    What do you guys think?
