An idea to greatly increase offline conversions

Hey guys. I'm pretty new to the Offline field of IM but I think I just thought of a good idea to help increase conversions with potential clients.

If you could ask your client to Google something random like "homemade cherry cassarole" and within the top 3 spots your SEO website would show up. Your SEO site obviously has nothing to do with food or cooking so showing a potential client you have the power to do that should let him or her know that you're the real deal.

I may be way off but it seems like a good parlor trick that would entice the curiosity and show off your SEO power.

Honestly, parlor tricks aren't really going to cut it. You're best bet is to just bite the bullet and do a couple for free or at a greatly reduced price just to get some results that you can show people that you've gotten for real businesses. I'm sure you know a few people that are small business owners, perhaps even friends or family. Offer to do their's at a ridiculously low rate, or free, just to get the work and testimonials/referrals.

I'm not sure where I would fit that into any live conversation. I was more or less thinking of putting it at the very end of a video that you would send to potential clients showing how much potential business they're losing by not being ranked in the top 3 organic and google places. Maybe as a "still not convinced" line or something.

I do agree about talking to friends and family that own their own business though. What better way to practice and get good testimonials? Would certainly be better than hiring a Fiverr testimonial guy.

I just don't think showing someone that you ranked an SEO related site for "homemade cherry cassarole" would impress them that much, to be honest with you. Showing them an SEO site ranking for SEO definitely would. Even showing them a "homemade cherry cassarole" related site that ranks for "homemade cherry cassarole" would be better than an SEO site that ranks for "homemade cherry cassarole", in my opinion anyway.

A plumber wants to know that you can rank for plumbing. A lawyer wants to know you can rank for lawyer keywords. A dentist wants to know you can rank for dentist keywords.

P.S. No one should ever hire someone to do fake testimonials.

If you just starting, I can recommend to start with a free service. And then try to sign the client for monthly payments. That way you show what you can do, you gain trust, referrals and recurring income.

At least, this a one way to start.

Doesn't always work all the time. I would offer consulting services as usual, and don't offer any type of services for free. You'd be better off selling information products.

Gaining trust, referrals, and recurring income may seem easy to achieve with free services, but trust me - you will waste alot of time and money with business owners who don't want to fork up the money to hire you after you've done a ton of work for their business.

Always be honest upfront and as clear as possible. This is an 'authority boosting tactic' and there are far better ways of doing this.

Instead put together a case study clearly outlining the actions you take and the associated benefits. If you do this then you are also pre selling key services that you can then offer to them as a service

Rankings, SEO, link building... they're all by-products of what the client is really after: revenue.

They don't care that you can rank, or if you can get good links, or if you know how to optimize their title tags or know what canonicalization is and how to fix it on their website.

What they care about is how you're going to increase revenue at their company, how you're going to get them more money for their children's school fund or how you're going to make the next year easier on them so they don't struggle financially.

If you can show them (possibly with rankings) that you will solve all the above, then you'll have a client. It's not as easy as it seems, as everyone is pitching the same thing. Build credibility and trust, and you'll close more.
