Local Niches - Here's mine, what are yours?

I'm very new to Offline Marketing but I've been thinking a lot about local niches and which ones to search and contact. A lot of people might want to keep theirs a secret but I've been helped a TON by this forum over the past year and I don't mind giving back. Even if none of mine help anyone here, maybe other people's posts can help someone else.

Here are the ones I've researched and got so far:

Jewelry stores
pc repair shops
lawyers
dentists
insurance agents
tattoo parlors
barber shops
small restaurants

Added by: Maverick8
accountants
lawyers
air conditioner businesses
beauty salons
hair salons
blind companies
builders
carpet cleaning
chiropractors
dentists
real estate agents
solar power providers
electricians
fencing businesses
photogrphers (wedding)
landscapers
pest control
florists
physiotherapists
vets
bathroom renovations
kitchen renovations
hotels
restaurants
locksmiths
architects
roofers
holiday parks
caravan parks
car dealerships

That's all that I've got so far. Anyone else? If you decide to mention your ideas and don't mind them being added to this post, let me know in the post and I will be sure to give you credit.

I really tried hard with chiropractors and no success. I blame this partly to the huge advertising by companies like ChiroMax and Chiromatrix. They have fully built and seo'd (according to them) websites and offer an A to Z solution including hosting, web promotion, etc., etc. If you go after chiropractors, be sure you target the ones with home-grown websites. Just my $0.02.

I'm referring to targeting local business owners and offer them SEO help like ranking their websites and Google Places pages for targeted keywords. Your idea doesn't sound like a bad idea though. There would be room for local advertising for sure.

I love contractors. What's weird is it is the older ones that are jumping on board. The younger ones are more resistant. Haven't quite figured that one out yet.

I dont know any niche I would not go into. Most luck has been spas, restaurants, B&Bs. For me it is selling a simple service first (maybe not even online service) and then once they see your knowledge, go for bigger ones.

Never been turned down for a $100 ad/flyer redesign. Believe it or not, a $200 website is harder to sell then that.

Sounds cheap but my typical customer I originally got for $100 goes on to get website, adwords, on and on.

You dont know any niche you wouldnt go into? What about niches that have low search volume in a city? how do you justify what your going to do for that particular business?

I am not critising if it sounds like that. I am just interested in this quesstion

low search volume - water damage, mold damage, fire damage. These have low search volumes but the CPC is $23. These type of clients just need 1 client a week to make it worth what your charging them.

That is a good point and thank you for bringing it up. I've been researching a lot lately and I often see good ideas lose their flare when I see that only 50 people a month are searching. It's time to go back and weigh some options I suppose.

Let's brainstorm some niches that get really busy at Christmas time.

This way you can target them with a "Be found online in time for Christmas" special.

Gives you a good reason to call and you can always give them your standard price in a flyer that has a higher price with a big X through it.

I know the obvious here is retail, but here's a couple outside the box

            Travel Agents
            Couriers
Child Care (with all the Christmas functions)
            Conference centers

I know what you mean. But you have to be able to justify your services to the client before they sign with you. Rankings mean nothing really. Unless they are for keyword that bring traffic.

Lets say the total traffic volume for an industry in a city 250 total across 10 keywords. And lets say you can get 15% of this traffic. which means you are getting 37.5 people per month to their site. if you convert at 5% that is 1.875 sales per month. tack on your service fee. Is what your charging going to be profitable for you and the client?

You might find a couple of keywords with low search volume. Below 100 etc. But if there is a couple close to 100 a month it is easy to put them in a table and total them up and make it look good lol. But still some niches are that low that you still look like a fool LOL

This is where experience comes into play. I know for this niche, that their average client is about $10,000 or more. This is not a "luxury" niche where the buyer can just walk away. This is some one's home that was damaged and or destroyed by water, fire, etc. They want people to fix it asap.

Yeah it might only be 8 searches a day, but if you really think about it are you going to search "water damage phoenix" for the fun of it ? It's not an niche that everyone goes into ( Lawyers, doctors, real estate agents, etc). This is one of those things that you only search for if you need it.

This was my point. You never know who needs your services and which services they need. Let's take B&B for instance. I know they HAVE to fill their place all year if possible to be profitable. The amounts are huge to them. But your average marketer will not pay any attention thinking their profits are too low. I'm setting up doing work for one guy that makes almost $2000 a weekend but wants to make $10,000 for the whole week (and it is possible with the correct marketing). Money was not even an issue for the guy (they all say that but what they mean is keep it within reason as long as you make me money I would be happy to pay you).

I would filter out small minded owners before I filtered which business niche to go after! Much better filter system and sometimes it opens many more doors.

Chiropractors are a good group of people to sell to. They got money to spend, and have no idea about successful marketing. You'll be competing against Ben Altadonna though in this niche, and he's been a good leader selling to chiropractors. Can still be profitable tho.

This is probably a given but I hadn't thought about it until a few days ago. I searched my main city + web design and found there is actually a decent amount of searches. Well worth the effort of ranking your own website for the term. This will negate a little cold calling/emailing potential clients. Let them come to you for once.

I am working the SEO aspect, my first go round was a psychologist.

I am sticking to high value per client, my next targets are dentists..

I also have a potential client through word of mouth for an outboard motor company, 1 sale can give them $20 grand.. so gave me an idea..

..I grabbed a yacht trader thing over the weekend (similar to an auto trader) as I was near a beach over the weekend.. I see some good potential in that niche as well, yacht selling companies sell to very rich people, so their client value has to be high :-)

local iphone repair is another (maybe), 2 or so clients can cover what they pay you a month..

I'm about to try and tackle the restaurants. There's over 600 cumulative searches for my area with no YouTube videos on the first page. I'm about to try and rank a video for a local chain without talking to them first and leave my local SEO logo/info at the end. I forgot whose idea that was but they just mentioned it the other day.

I was on a webinar last night, with a guy, who did just this. He was on asking the holders of the webinar how to handle it because he has met with the director of marketing and boards, etc, they want him to do a lot of work for a total of 60 retail stores to the tune of 60 K a month! but to get to their attention, he ranked some videos first, then contacted them... so make it happen.

Offline is where I like to play. When I find a client willing to spend money, I assume its a niche to be in.

The trick is for us to believe that they need us more than we need them. When we start thinking this way....money chases us...instead of us chasing the money.

I swear I walked away from deals this week where I said I had to go without asking for the sale and the client was asking me: "how much, how much how much?"

    2 niches here

1.) Laptop repair (cityname) is a good niche. It's highly specialized and not as many people compete for it as other computer related niches.

2.) Xbox repair - sounds dumb but it actually is decent in some cities. Not a $1k client but it will pay your bills and have another client + refferal possibly.

3.) Sushi - Specialized type of food restraunt. Recommend doing google places, yelp, and other food social website types.

4.) Windshield repair cityname - another type of service, specialized so not every seo person will be on it.
