Company name and website url

I have a domain name that is like: geomarketing.com
There is already a company in my area that have the same name: geo marketing
They don't have any site and is not really known here, it says their activities is mainly marketing consultancy, I didn't know it exist until I check my local commerce bureau.
My question is, is it possible to register my company as: geomarketing.com? My activity is offline and web marketing, web design and hosting.
Any suggestions?

    I don't know where you live, but if you are doing a DBA you just have to check with your county clerk, at least in the USA. If you're doing an LLC or SCorp a name search is part of the process. I do know some people who have made the "dot com" part of their business name for the very same reason and it only serves to cause confusion.

    Why not contact the actual company check they are still operating? it would be highly unlikley that a marketing related company wouldnt have a website now days wouldn't it?

    if you already have the domain, and they dont have trademarks should be fine, they may offer to buy it from you - best thing is to get your main keywords in the domain so marketing is a good one you can always register your actual company name to be different also like Geoly Marketing or something along those lines doesnt really matter its just a name, the domain is more important (and i do not mean to take anything away from your business name its what you make with it that counts!)
