How to get local clients?

Hi

I'm wondering about how to get local clients which need some SEO, so I wonder about how to get the clients. I know about using an advert in newspaper but wonder if you guys has other alternatives like using twitter or facebook?

I'm kind of banned from facebook (takes ages before they send me new password), so not easy to post ads there.

I live in a small city with an population of only 170.000 in Norway.

    Look for people with phone book ads.
    See where they rank on google.
    People paying for phone book ads spend money.
    If the are on page 2 or 3 show them the value of being on page one
    After talking with them make a proposal based on what they would need.
    Price it right and give them value and ROI and than ask for referrals.

    Consider giving the first customer a 50% break if they will offer referrals and offer those referred a 10 to 20% discount off what you would normally charge.
