Getting offline clients for a newb

I have successfully used both rent a site packages and basic service like boosting a clients own webpage to page one of google for a keyword and even used the Google Love package by Dr Dan to get many listings on the front page of google for one client.

The problem is I have only done this for about three people and they are family and friends and are not paying me a whole lot. I am wanting to venture out and start getting more clients that will pay me a residual $100-200+ per month for different packages.

I have a lot of different options I can do and am willing to negotiate price since I am just starting out. What is the best approach for this? Just start knocking on businesses doors? Trying to talk with business owners face to face?

I have a decent portfolio of what I have done and what I can do. Just not sure where to go from here.......

I don't want to sound generic, but I'd say it's time to start talking to businesses. What I mean is:
    1) Any business that you frequent (restaurants, cafes, hair dresser) etc.... let them know you've started your business and either (a) give them an awesome offer or (b) ask them who they know that might be interested in having a conversation with you (referral)
    2) Start sending cold call emails, postcards, cold calls and in person cold calls/visits - asking for an appointment (not asking for the sale)
    3) Go to networking events in your local area promote your business, ask for referrrals, be a reffing partner for someone else
    4) Places ads in Craigslist and other places
    5) Tell friends and family you'll pay them for a referral that becomes a customer and decide if you want to give them $50 for how much you'll pay. (Don't pay for a referral name, pay when you close the deal and have been paid yourself

I imagine you already have your website, your business cards ready so you look professional.

Have the 3 people you worked on write you a testimonial so you can have that "proof"
also ask them if they know of any businesses that could use your help (ask for referral)

For me it's a scary thing to go hunt for business. It terrifies me, but I also know it's what need to be done unless you can succeed at inbound marketing and having people contact you - or you have an awesome network of family and friends who will naturally refer business to you.

In short, it's time for you to get out there an talk to businesses, or hire someone to do that for you.

    Wishing you wild success!!

      Hi-
I've been doing this for 5 months and I started sending emails and got one client, then I started cold calling. In my mind, as long as you make enough calls, cold-calling is a client making machine or cash machine. It's not easy to cold call but it does work. Also, don't try a bunch of different techniques. Try one and stick with it and work on it until it is working. The problem people have on WF is that there are so many possibilities that if something is too hard or doesn't magically work instantly they switch to some other technique and never really figure out how to do it so it will work.
      Good Luck!
