The Easiest Cold Call Conversion Ever - Cut Out Junk

Hey,

Just wanted to share what happened to me today on a cold calling binge.

Usually when I cold call people I have a sale proposition/pattern of talking where I beat around the bush and try to cleverly get them interested.

My father has been in sales for a LONG time, and so I told him about what I say thinkin hed approve. He basically told me I was a idiot.

He said that one thing that always gets him to establish a business partner ship or listen to a pitch is straight forward honesty/respect for the persons intelligence.

He added that he and most people he knows usually hang up the phone the second they sense a crafted sales pitch coming. One thing he said that really struck home was,

"People LOVE spending money, they love buying things, they hate being sold things though"

Honestly I thought he was wrong. I have made sales, but whatever.

Sooooooo

Today when I was calling people, I was extremely hungover and tired. So i decided what the hell..Maybe ill just cut to the chase since I feel like being lazy.

So I called a guy up, and it went like this

"Hey, my names Alex. Honestly, I know your busy so I will just cut the sales pitch. I am calling because I would like to sell you something that is going to bring you more business through google and pay for it self. Wanna hear about it?"

"Hi Alex, sure Ill hear you out"

*I was pretty much ready to hang up the phone..and then was like...wait what?!"

I told him exactly what I was gonna do. He said it sounded great and agreed to a meeting. At the end of it I was kinda shocked, so I asked him what got him to stay on the phone out of curiosity

"You cut out the S_ _ _ and were straight forward with me"

I am not saying this is some secret or even consistent way to get clients, but pretty eye opening to me. Guess my dads not a total idiot

In short. Being brutally straight forward can work. Who'da thought.

      Becker13,

Loved it. While it won't work everythime it will work enough to pay you handsomely. We use a different line in our insurance agency but the facts say if you just lay it out, you'll be successful.

      Continued success,

That was great Alex. I'm gonna try this. I swear i will !!
It's true that when people feel the pitch, which is usually perceived as B.S. they cut you out right away however, this approach makes them freeze for a moment and ask themselves, What the heck is it ? Let me try to understand what's going on...
Then, they listen to you. lol
      Thanks for the tip.

I think that's great. I also think that a well crafted script by definition shouldn't sound like a script.

Doing what you did worked for you for a lot of reasons no doubt, but you have the advantage of product knowledge and previous sales pitching to back you up if something goes off track.

Experience and confidence allows you to go off track and have a little fun with the process. You know that you can always jump back on track at any time during the call. I wouldn't recommend this tactic to anyone who hasn't mastered the initial script/presentation.

        But awesome none the less!

Ha, that's great. What's funny is some of my best work is done hungover! I have tried this in my chemical trading business, and it works more often than not...most, not all business owners appreciate the honest approach.

This works will if you a doing a video review of their website or Google places page...something free and easy to do to get your foot in the door.

          Rock on man!

There are 2 types of people in this world....those who get it and those who don't. The ones that get it know exactly what we are talking about. The ones who don't are left scratching their heads.

This is hilarious! But your father is right we should have the respect for the person's intelligence.

This is awesome mate. The pro's would call it a "pattern interrupt", but essentially you came across like a human and not just another sales bloke.

    Well done.

Alex, you are right on with this and have learned something that evades quite a few people. Get to the point and don't waste people's times. I wrote a post awhile ago about cold calling (http://www.warriorforum.com/offline-...nge-today.html) and the whole point is to get straight to the appointment close. I don't ever try to sell somebody over the phone. The whole purpose of cold calling for me is to get an appointment. There is no reason that it should take longer than a couple minutes on the phone to get an appointment.

Great job sharing this, hopefully other Warriors can see that cold calling isn't that bad if you do it correctly.

That spin on buying things vs being sold makes all the difference, easy to forget though.
