Offline Marketing - What I've Learned (Nutshell Guide)

Hey guys. I wanted to make a small post to put everything that I've learned in one place for those new to Offline Marketing. Most everything you read in this post, I gained from other Warrior's posts. These are NOT MY IDEAS. It took me a few weeks of casual reading but I'm about ready to kick this thing into high gear once the new year rolls around. This guide is by no means the best but I feel these things will, at the very least, get your blood flowing if you're new to this field.

To start off, if it wasn't for this forum over the past year and a half, I probably would have given up on Internet Marketing long ago and given in to the 40-50 hour work week for little pay. Trolling this forum daily has made me not only a better IM'er but as well as a better person. I'm more positive/outgoing and I feel I'm better off financially than most of my family. In a nutshell, read this forum constantly and you will never lose focus and eventually find your small corner of this IM world where you actually make money.

A) What is Offline Marketing?

Offline Marketing is many things. It varies from walking into a business offering them a $10 L.E.D sign for $40 to helping a local business rank for their local keywords. There are literally hundreds, if not thousands of ways to make money with Offline Marketing but most of it boils down to helping an outside person or business using some type of Internet Marketing.

B) How to find Clients

This all depends on what you're planning on doing to help the client. In most cases, you'll be helping a business with their online needs. Just think of a local industry and see who is ranking in the top 3 for that local industry's keywords. Now all you have to do is call/email everyone below them to try and set up a meeting regarding SEO, Web Design, Mobile Design, etc. It's harder than it sounds but not really. Section D goes over some more "outside of the box" methods.

C) Increasing your odds of closing the deal in meetings

A prerequisite to these steps is to read How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie. (Not an affiliate link) It's a short read, maybe an hour, but it will help you tremendously in your everyday walk as a salesman and a person.

  • Be Straight Forward - The minute a business owner senses a load of crap that you've rehearsed minutes before the meeting, you're done. Just go in and say something like, "Hey John, I know time is money so I won't beat around the bush. I'm here to help you increase your sales and customer base. If you're interested, I can explain further. If not, I'm sorry to have wasted your time." This strategy also works well over the phone when you're trying to setup a meeting.
  • Let Them Sell Themselves - People like to buy things on their own, not be coaxed into it. If you want your client to buy a service, let them come to that conclusion on their own. If they're interested in SEO or a new website then offer them multiple options where only one is a "smart buy." Example: If they see one option (the one you want them to buy) that is a lot better than the other options, they'll be enticed to choose that one. Now, they feel that they have made a wise decision all by themselves and you don't look like a scummy salesman.
  • Give Them CONSERVATIVE Stats - Let's say you have a potential client interested in SEO. If you know for a fact that you can get them at least 50% of the local search term traffic, give them a conservative number like 30%. Then do the math of [Search Volume x .30 = Traffic || Traffic x 1-3% conversion rate = Paying Customers || Paying Customers x Customer Value = Monthly Profit]. While showing them these numbers, make sure they know these are CONSERVATIVE numbers. It's better to get more than expected than to get less.
D) Getting Potential Clients to Call You

These are various methods other Warriors have posted about or suggested that differ greatly from traditional cold calling. Again, these are NOT my ideas.

  • Ranking Videos - This is a current method that I'm trying. Basically what you want to do is find a niche like restaurants and pick out a business whom you deem worthy of some free SEO. Now make a short 30-60 second video advertising their business using pictures or actual video. Be sure to put your company's contact information at the start and end. Add it to YouTube with the local niche's keywords in the title/tags/description and use the annotation feature to add a small bar at the bottom stating something like, "If you want your business marketed like this, contact us in the description." Now get this video ranked on the first page and you should eventually have competing businesses calling you. Once you have a contract signed, take down the video you made and help out your new client.
  • Emailing Videos - This method comes from a Warrior named Not So New. What you want to do here is gather all of the emails you can of whatever niche you're researching. Now make a short video explaining the services you can offer this niche. Mention the amount of traffic it gets, how you can help rank them, conversion rates, etc. Now email this single video to everyone in that niche and wait for replies and callbacks. Most of the time spent doing this method will be gathering the emails. The research and video making will become easier and easier. Lead generating software can drastically reduce your time spent gathering emails.
  • LinkedIn - I still haven't used this method nor have I even created an account yet but it seems to be getting used more and more. Make a LinkedIn profile and become active. Befriend local business owners and answer Internet Marketing related questions in the appropriate forum. Showing off your expertise while answering these questions can and will land you clients without you having to contact them directly.
That's all I have for now. It's 2:30am and I couldn't sleep due to the 5 hour energy I took during our Black Friday run tonight. I hope this post helps someone and I apologize for any poor grammar or misspellings. It's late
