How does everyone feel about this..

This is a new method I might create depending on the input i receive.

Phase one:
  • Create "Mobile Directory site" (City)+MobileDirectory.com
  • Add free listings on site for local businesses (Interviews)
  • (Not sure) Offer free QR codes for listings to get seen in newspapers

Phase Two:
OPTION ONE: Offer Free listing on site and lead into Mobile site Development
OPTION TWO: Offer Paid listing on site with Paid QR code and lead into Mobile site


What are your thoughts?

    This is a good idea and I think would definitely work. Be prepared to put in a lot of time initially to build the directory and sign people up for free. I would suggest trying to get a meeting with them to sell the actual site right away and if they say no, then ask if they want to be in the directory for free.

    You might also want to check out Snappd.it (Snappd.it: Making Mobile Work for You) and Judy's Book (Social Search® To Get The Trusted Scoop On Local Places) They are doing something similar, but offering free mobile websites & QR Codes.

      I agree. I built an online directory and added free listings. Then when it came to monetizing later it was a tough sell to get the advanced listing. A bit different i know, but going for the sale upfront is a better approach as you will get some money coming in and the directory is a bonus for them. The ones that say no, give them the free dir list and get them on your email list and drip feed them mobile content to educate them on the benefit, stats, etc

      I suggest to start with OPTION ONE in beginning and after you grow go OPTION TWO. Will take time but in the end you will make money on auto pilot with outsourcing.

    Option one is good.. I still do not like the whole QR code fascination.

    I really like option #1, especially if you scale it down and work in your local town. You will be providing a highly valuable service to your local business and you just might come out looking like the hero in your town

    Offer a free listing with an upsell to a paid listing that has additional benefits.

    Never lock yourself into one particular methodology...see what works best and then build from there.

      Now should i focus on SEO does it really matter if the site ranks?

    It should also be noted that going with option 1 first will help you build your listings quickly. This way it gives you value to the directory when you do decide to start charging for the listing.
