Service Industry Businesses: Here is what they pay for leads :)

I was scouring the net for some information, and I came across this PDF.

Here's a quick breakdown of what this is:

ServiceMagic (ServiceMagic.com | Get Matched to Top-Rated Remodelers, Plumbers & More) is basically a broker site. Say you want to get your bathroom shower remodeled: You go to their website, drill down to what you are looking for (bathroom shower remodel) and in what area (your city), etc and they will take that lead and offer it up to all of the businesses that can fulfill it within your area (businesses that utilize ServiceMagics service), and one of them buys your lead from ServiceMagic, and voila.

They cover basically all service industries, from home remodeling to auto repair.

So, the PDF file here contains a breakdown of what these businesses will pay for a specific job lead.

You'll notice 4 different prices for each little service, here is what they mean:
PP = Premiere Pro (their high end plan, which allows people to purchase leads for B2B (from what I understand) at a slightly cheaper rate than usual)
LS: Lead Select (their regular pricing)
Residential: The price a business pays for a residential lead of the specific type
Business: The price a business pays for a business lead of the specific type

Anyways, here is a link to the file: http://ge.tt/9290NXA?c

I suggest all of you offliners take the time to check this out, especially if you are having trouble pricing your services, or you always find yourself feeling like you can't charge more than you likely are.

Remember, these are the prices that these companies pay PER LEAD.

Example: A lead for 'Exterior Home or Structure - Paint or Stain' is $33 for a Residential lead, and $51 for a Business lead!

If you do SEO for a painting company, and they are getting, say 6 leads a month from your efforts for an Exterior Paint or Stain on homes, the MINIMUM you should be making is $190, and that isn't factoring in anything else.

And alas, here is a list of all of the lead prices inside the PDF that are equal to or over $50 each, so you can get right to the good industries to work with.

Enjoy

I bet you can do better than the amounts listed in that document and here's why.

You'll have better leads because you're local. You'll have a better feel for the market which leads to more productive and profitable leads.

Are those leads exclusive, meaning they are sold to only one company? Or does Service Magic sell the same lead 3, 4 or more times to a merchant.

They're sold to up to 5 companies.

Contacting one of the guys paying for the leads and saying "hey... how'd you like to pay $XX.X for EXCLUSIVE leads instead of paying $XX.X and sharing with your competitors?" seems like a great angle.

Being in the rug cleaning biz I can tell you this - most of us hate SM. The leads suck - you have to call really fast so somebody else doesn't beat you to it. Many times you call and hear "click" on the other end for a "lead" you paid for AND SM won't refund the lead $.
Having said that - I do know of a few companies that have gotten some pretty good jobs from them.

So if service magic sells the lead to 5 companies, obviously the lead buyer agrees to those terms, which will make it tough to process a lead refund request. This amazes me:
    Air Conditioning & Cooling: Central A/C – Install - $42/$51
Lets say $42 for an A/C lead X 5 companies is: $210 earned by SM! However if I was an HVAC guy I don't think I'd pay $210 for an email lead exclusively. I guess this I why contractors and everyone else needs to up their game in offline marketing.

Service magic is like advertising in the Yellow Book. People give it a try until they realize that it sucks and then they get out.

I am an authorized reseller so I can place buy orders for leads across their entire system.
