I see more and more talk about QR codes and understand the value of them but was wondering how many of you actually scan the codes yourselves?

Just a quick story where I was in Best Buy looking at some headphones to purchase and they happen to have a QR code posted on the shelf next to the price and description, so out of curiosity I scanned it. To my amazement, it took me to the Best Buy site and I saw where the price for the headphones were $30 cheaper than what they had them shown for in the store. Funny thing is that the store manager was passing by right at that time and asked if I was finding everything ok, so I asked him if they would honor the online price in the store. He took a look and said that they would gladly honor it. So just by scanning a QR code I ended up saving $30. It definitely made a believer out of me so whenever I see a QR code I usually scan it to see what the deal might be.

If you have a similar story, I would love to hear about it.

One of my "salesgals" (gals get better sales results than guys) sells a program to Restaurant Owners where....she prints up a "Menu" on a sheet of paper and places it in a Frame...OUTSIDE the entrance to the Restaurant.

On this "Menu Sheet" is a QR Code that potential diners can Scan...
BEFORE entering the restaurant....to get a Discount off their meal!

Now...why in the world would a restaurant owner PAY for a service that provides a Discount....BEFORE diners enter the restaurant?

The answer is; Scanning in the QR Code, on the Menu OUTSIDE the restaurant....provides an "enticement"....to enter....and...
the program CATCHES the Cell Phone info so....a LIST is built so the Owner can send FUTURE....Special Enticements to PREVIOUS DINERS!

For ex; Let's say Tuesday is a Slow Day and the Rest Owner wants to "Beef-Up" his biz that day....so....he arranges (with my gal) to send a "Buy 1 Meal, Get 2nd Half Price! TODAY only! Just show this Coupon on your phone when paying!"

Would something like THIS....get Restaurant Owners EXCITED about "Paying for such a Service"?

Don Alm....Idea guy and lovin' it

        Don, always love your ideas!

I like the general concept of QR codes, but wonder if anyone has any real statistics from a real application of these codes on how many people actually scan these codes daily/weekly and how many redeem whatever the offer is.

I don't see enough people 1) with smart phones, 2) that know what a QR code is, 3) with the app loaded, 4) that now how to use the app, 5) that are willing to take the time to use the app, 6) aren't worried about where the code takes them, and 7) aren't worried about automatically getting signed up for someone marketing list.

Anyone got any real statistics on a real live use of these codes at a real live business?

I do not think the value of QR has even remotely been taken advantage of yet. It is a novelty and people's eyes are drawn to them which to me is the biggest value (first part of the marketing equation is GET THEIR ATTENTION and it is doing that in spades).

I put on all flyers, cards, signs but know I can be thinking more creatively with it.

Btw, does anyone remember when the Apple II first came out this was sort of proposed as a new amazing thing and they were selling the readers and software for a similar system...only took 30 years to catch on.

I have no agenda but to help those in the same situation. This I feel will pay the bills.
