Blog is getting hundreds of hits out of nowhere?

Dont get me wrong, under normal circumstances I would be very excited about this, but this is a blog I rarely update. In the past week I've gotten over 100 comments, which would be awesome but it's obvious they're not normal. "Whoa, you totally blew my mind!!!" "This blog is amazing!!!" etc. The weird thing is they're not linking to spam sights, the URLs that are linked to their names are bing, google, etc. Not really sure what to make of this?

Those automated tools are getting ridiculous! Probably someone using it and don't know how to use it right.

Automated tool for what though? Could they have accidentally linked to my blog rather than someone elses? Don't know what the benefit would be to someone posting hundreds of comments to my blog over their own.

Once you "approve" innocent comment they'll be able to make others auto-approved, but that time charged with viagra, casino and porn links.

Here is some thing I have done to make blog spammers work for me and my clients.

I change the comment to be something that adds value to any readers and that are keyword rich. I then link to one of my other websites, this one gives you a comment from a unique IP so keeps the site looking very active and gives you back links to your other websites. Plus it makes spammers very angry.
