Where BIG SPENDING Local Advertisers Hang Out

As we close out the year, I wanted to suggest an easy source of big-spending LOCAL advertisers...something you may want to target January 1st and profit from.

The tool to use is CITY MAGAZINES...most even modest sized cities have CITY MAGAZINES, and some of the bigger markets have more than one.
For example there's CHICAGO, SEATTLE, D Magazine, ATLANTAN, MIAMI, OCEAN DRIVE, MILWAUKEE, INDIANAPOLIS, and on and on.

I've found the advertisers in these to be very upscale, almost always 100% local, and 'ad spenders'....and I've always found it easier to get businesses already spending ad dollars to invest in internet promotions, than those that hardly advertise at all. (too much 'education' needed for the latter).

While some of these magazines are part of a chain of city magazines covering the whole US, not all are. If they have a local office, it may even pay to visit them and see if a relationship/trade/ad discount is available.

Then you might offer your upscale clients, a 'package': Internet Promotion and a discounted CITY MAGAZINE advertisement too.

As every experienced marketer online and offline will tell you, clients only care about more and better-spending customers. Focusing like this, using multiple ad venues and specially arranged offers, can separate you from the crowd.

An old-timer once told me, "It's crowded at the bottom, but there's plenty of room at the top!"...

I totally agree with what you are saying here Bruce. It can be hard to find good sources of clients that spend a substantial amount on advertising but are still local enough to sell to!

The type of publication you mention is one of the main places I go looking.

That's a really good idea. Similar to that are identifying local businesses that sponsor regional events (pro sports, networking events, college and high school teams etc.). They probably have sizable marketing budgets and may be open to new avenues.
