Bandit Signs on Freeway Exits!

I used to do this with getting real estate investor leads, was wondering if it could be used for say pay per call?? Where they pay you depending on how long the person stays on the call after they call your affiliate number. So I guess you could put up a sign saying something like "Free debt consolidation consultation. Best in the Nation. Call 800-123-4567" Put up 20 signs on your nearest freeway exits and just wait for the money to roll in. Any of you guys try this or have any other ideas you'd like to share?

I personally think that this is not legal and that people will be very pissed of by it.
Think about it, you get money if you give out value.

Do you think putting up a banner like that will bring much value to the vendor's company? Not really. The result = Not getting much money.

In my neck of the woods ( daytona florida ) we actually have city workers track down the owners of those numbers, and issue citations.
It is against city ordinance... and we have them ALL over the place.

i asked about it once and was told it 200.00 fine per sign for the FIRST offense

          Illegal where I live too.

Which is why (as Joe L suggested) many people use handwritten signs--they're less likely to get a citation verses a bunch of professionally printed full color signs with block lettering.

Yeah well so do I. You know what I think? It's messy. I don't know about laws in the areas of everyone else here but illegal or not, it's just downright messy where I am. Throw in bored street urchins and you've got a classic image of urban decay in a Third World country.

Right. So anyone who agrees with you is cool, and anyone who disagrees with you, even if they point out laws you would be breaking, enforcement efforts currently being taken, and the consequent fines... is a loser with a bad attitude.

I would wish you good luck with your campaign, but then it occurred to me... why would I wish anyone good luck with littering and polluting?

Tell me this was a new year's joke. Who in the world would actually try to infringe on the people standing on the freeway on ramps trying to collect money? These people all have bandit signs asking for money and probably would tear the signs down themselves.

Well, it looks like this thread is still open, so I'll throw my 2 cents in (with hopes that it helps)...

Yard Signs, aka bandit signs, give me the best response for marketing my houses for sale. I put them up on fridays and they are down by monday morning. If they get asked to be taken down, we do that right away (disclaimer: check your local municipal rules). I prefer to put them in the ground with short stakes vs. telephone poles. I do this to try to be one of the good guys (heh).

So if you were to do this as a CPA? Yes, that's a genius idea. I might just borrow it. In fact all around new jersey, people use yard signs to advertise. They clutter the area and some times it bothers me, but truthfully, it brings a lot of business. And if you have them up only for the weekend, then I think you are doing it right. I have a "spot" at a stop light near a vacant commercial property and that brings me calls every day the sign is there.

So, sure, there are reasons to do it and there are reasons not to do it. And believe me, I could argue for it or against it. But if you are truly offering the community a service they need from an ethical service provider (check the reviews of the CPA provider), then why not do it and try it?

If you have to take them down, so be it. Just don't be a nuisance about it and flood the town with spam. Make a few nice handwritten signs (i use sign warehouse - Box of 10 Endura Cor-Plastic Sign Blanks - 18 inch x 12 inch - Yellow - Sign Supplies and Equipment) for the best response.

Oh, btw, may I suggest that to get the most "help" from this forum, that we don't attack each other? I have learned so much from others and I don't agree with everyone's opinion, but there is more to gain from keeping an open mind than to jump down someone's throat...

    P.S. Happy New Year people.

Oh the fines you can get. I was just talking to a friend about this. He was putting them out everywhere, and it was really working, then the fines started poring in. He had to completely stop because it was being fined more then he was making.

I have never called one of those either, but we were talking about it at work recently and it was amazing how many people knew the name of the new tyre company that had recently opening - all from those annoying little signs everywhere.
Experts say a customer needs to see your banner an average of 7 times to build trust so maybe they are working on the same model :-)

I think the success really depends on how clean your are about it and if your poster isn't just another tacky piece bordering on vandalism. Laws come into play too.

It's not just advertising for services mind you. I've seen plenty of posters like that for recruiting employees. While some looked legit, others were incredibly shady both from the descriptions and from the cheap way it was printed.

Seems to me this thread has focused on the signs more than the business model...

So let me get this straight... you want to post signs (per your example) advertising to people who are in desperation over their debt and inability to pay their bills and you get paid based "depending on how long the person stays on the call after they call your affiliate number."

I hope the caller isn't being charged in the same way (i.e., by how long they're on the phone)!?

Road/Bandit Signs WORK! They FLAT OUT WORK
    depending on your niche!

Are they legal? LOL! Check your city/town ordinance.
    Each city/town is different.

Example... In certain parts of Birmingham, AL
if you post your signs behind the
    Right-Of-Way, you're not breaking a law.

Example.. If you post your signs after 5:00 pm
on Friday and pick them up before 7:00 am on
Monday, you're not breaking a law.

Unsightly? Heck my ex-girlfriend was unsightly
but man was she a GREAT cook. LOL!

What if signs work better than SEO for your
niche? What if signs work better than
PPC for your niche? What if signs work better
    than SMS for your niche?

    What if?

TEST, TEST, TEST, and you be the judge.

    Much success,
    Frank
