Are your client's sites converting?

Hi, just wondering, once you've built a new site or optimized the client's
site and achieved the number one spot on Google's first page, is the
site producing results satisfactory to your client?

If not, what have you been able to do to improve the results?

    I have a new client, he wasn't ranking and once he was, the traffic was so small it was awful for leads. What I did, was basically replicate the site about 6 times to target 6 other surrounding cities.. now it is generating about 6 leads a month, which is enough for him since he only does it part time. The service isn't really seasonal, but I guess maybe it is in a way, so we will see in spring how well it does.

    There have been a number if posts on offline lead Gen techniques, worth spending some time going through them. Many are unrelated to a website, but it sounds like you may be positioning yourself to do lead gen for them as opposed to ranking. My experience had been biz owners put a lot more value in that than being number one for the exact reason you stated in your post.

    Did a rewrite for a high end wine retailer recently, that was a quick turnaround for the holiday season. This, with the help of a designer, has consistently boosted their conversions and the feedback they gave me has been that customers are more committed now. Day 2 a corporate prospect called about 96 orders!

    Most of the time we try to rank our client's website in the number one spot on Google and then we think that will solve all the client's problems. We need to figure out exactly what are the "buyer keywords" for the client (not just the "browsing keywords"), and then we need to split test the home page of the website or the landing page to be able to track the conversion rate. Just SEO alone won't cut it anymore. You need to show a positive ROI for your client's investment and this means more customers, not just more visitors.

      Agree completely. Some of the struggle with clients can be their misunderstanding of the difference between "getting hits" and getting conversions. Serious keyword research and split testing is of the utmost importance. Understanding where search queries are coming from and what keywords are converting, all of it is important.

      I think educating clients from the beginning on the main goal (increasing their business) can help you work with them and get them to that goal sooner.

    also and involve them.
