SEO for offline businesses

Hello Warriors,

I'm new to offline market and I can't figure out a few things about SEO there.

I'll take an example here:

I want to rank a website for a french restaurant in Hong Kong.

I'll do some keyword research:

french restaurant hong kong -->590
french restaurants in hong kong -->480
french restaurant --> 1300

Seems like it could bring a few customers!

Now let's say I'm to build a website for a restaurant that has none, I understand I have to target these keywords, but am I suppose to write pages and put them somewhere on the site? Then I do backlinking to these pages? Should the pages appear on the site menu or be hidden from it?

I can't figure what's supposed to be done with this!

Then if I look at what happens when I type in google "french restaurant hong kong"

I get #1: frommers.com, listing site PR4
#2:tripadvisor, PR3
#3 discover Hong Kong PR5
then I get 7 Google places, then some more high PR sites.

I would never do it myself, but I need to understand what has to be done to rank a site.

What would you do? Is it possible to get there? Is the best chance Google Places?

Thanks for getting me out of the dark!

Olivier

Yes you're supposed to write articles about the keywords you want to target. And of course you put them on the site, so that people who are interested in your keywords can read them.
The pagerank of a site is unimportant, if you aren't selling links. Pagerank hasn't anything to do with ranking in serps.

No offense meant, but I don't think you should do Seo for customers as you seem to not have a clue about it. I'm not saying this in a bad way, but I think it's not really fair to offer something, you aren't good at. That's bad business.

It would be difficult to give you a solid primer on SEO in this format. You have a tough road ahead offering SEO at this stage. Fortunately, there are a lot of resources you can access for the basics of SEO. If you have joined the War Room, there is always a ton of free, high quality stuff in there you can download. Make sure you also contribute to the forum if you are a member.

There are of course warriors who do extraordinarily good SEO work here at the WF, you may be well served (as well as your customer) to just outsource it and mark it up. I personally use a couple of the services, they charge me less than $200 a year and I charge $200 a month... healthy profit margin, work is done by a pro, sites are ranked just the way they should be.. we are all happy. Good luck.

    Hi and thanks,

I said I don't want to do it myself, just meant I want to outsource it. But still I like to understand hwat has to be done.

If links are sold on PR site, it's because a link on a PR site helps you rank better, is that correct? I just assumed then that a site with high PR was hard to outrank...

    Thanks for your aswers.

I'm intereted in your contact for seo services if you want to pm

Oh sorry, I got you wrong. Sure outsourcing sounds like a good idea.

The reasons why people buy high PR links are manifold.
Some people just don't understand that PR doesn't matter, when it comes to rankings. They buy high PR links and are like this is going to make me outrank my competion. But that's a totally wrong assumption. A PR1 page can outrank a PR4 page easily.
Others buy high PR links because they want to create high PR pages by themselves and later sell those links.
Others buy them because they think the high PR links are stronger then other links. (which can be true but don't have to be true. It always depends on the individual link.)

Sarah, SEO seems way too complicated for me to want to learn it, but it seems easy enough for me to be able to sell the service and make sure the work is done!

    Regards,

You need to get reviews. Another thing - articles.Tripadvisor is a great site , you can close a deal with them to advertise your restaurant .People are very interested in this site when they travel.I personally use it all the time . But that's more for tourists.
I'm sure there are local sites for local restaurants in categories such as meet restaurant, sushi, etc etc etc, you can add your site to these places too.
It seams like there is not a lot of competition tho for french restaurant hong kong" cause either there are not enough french restaurants in hong kong, or they are just not so into online advertising, . I would optimize your site for these keywords , and go for it.Another thing you can by the way is- ppc.
    Good luck!
