Domain name delimma. Advice?

So I'm gearing up for my local offline business to kick off (Video Marketing, Web design, Lead Gen). I checked my domain name about 4 months ago, I searched for similar names, found none and bought it. I designed the site. I was about to take it live when I did a random google search of the name. Turns out there is a local Wedding/ Event DJ with the same name minus one word. His color scheme is even similar to mine. His site and domain have only been active for two months. Dammit.

Mine is (local region) media pros - (offline internet marketer)
his is (local region) media - (wedding/event dj)

What would you do? Is it back to the drawing board?

Are you incorporated? Should be quite easy to remedy if that is the case.

Better yet, call the DJ, be honest with him about the situation and then see if you guys can partner up. Do websites for people getting married. A save the date website.

Every time there is some obstacle in your way, there is also a way to knock it down and profit from it!

I like IAmNameLess's idea - find a way to partner up. If that doesn't work see if you can buy the domain from the other company or pick another name.

The names are completely different and not niche related.

Don't give it a 2nd thought. Roll out your site and don't look back.

    Just my 2 cents.

I agree with domaininvestor. See if you can partner up. If not, just continue to go through with it. One business doesn't have anything to do with the other.

The domain name is one thing, but you need to make sure that they don't have a trademark on the name, assuming it's the same. You don't say whether you both are in the same city. Have you registered your business with your state / county / tax authority.

I have a client who had to close down one of his companies this month because he only checked statewide to see if there was someone with the same name. There was someone in another state that had a trademark on his business name and they had theirs first.

Use a different domain and redo your stuff. Just saying because I've been there.
