Local Hosting for local clients?

If I intend to build websites for local clients is it better for seo purposes to have the hosting servers located in the same country?

In other words do I require reseller hosting with UK based servers?

Or, are we now in such a global village that it really doesn't make a lot of difference?

To my knowledge I highly doubt that a hosting account has any impact on SEO, but if there is a hosting company which does have SEM priority I would love to hear of it .

If you are just starting I don't think you would really need to bother having a reseller account with a hosting company. Maybe get a couple of clients under your belt.

I would use something like hostgator start off with the baby croc package then advance from there you can still get a fair amount of websites on there.

Then charge clients $20/mo for hosting or whatever you want to charge.

The good thing about doing it this way is you don't have a heap of hosting accounts you have to monitor, you can just stick with the one account.

But to answer your question no it doesn't really make a difference the only thing would be to consider the price, as I live in Australia my local hosting companies are a complete rip-off compared to hosting companies in America, I don't know if there is a similar problem in the UK. Also be wary of the domain name I know that sites like hostgator charge extra if you want a .com.au to be hosted by them, I am not to sure about .co.uk.

    Hopefully that helps,

    Regards,

Hi, i would recommend local servers since the webpages, ftp, videos, etc will be faster than other location.

Also depends on the hosting company you choose

For SEO the only thing that will really make the difference is your domain. If you're in Ireland get a .ie domain. Get backlinks from a .ie domain. That's what really makes the difference.

Speed is important for SEO now for sure. I personally have several different locations even within the US to get faster pageloads (plus can say hostedes all over the us).

Hosting is fairly cheap now so getting a couple different places wont break the bank. I use linode.com which allows me to host in many different locations and countries all on the same account.

Speed is one of the factors Google looks at when determining SERP.

I usually stick to a model of US hosts for North America.
        UK hosts for Europe.
        and
        Australian hosts for Australia.

Speed-wise, as long as you're going with a reputable supplier you won't see any difference as long as you're on the same continent.

I'm from Toronto, have a host based-on Front St. Great guys, great support, gave me a great deal on my hosting.
Yet, I've seen hosts based out of Softlayer (Dallas) that gave me better speeds overall (HawkHost was the one I used previously).
