A twist on rent-a-site model: Ad Space?
I know that the rent-a-site model is tried and trusted - but what about renting advertising space on the site to multiple related local businesses?
For example, if I had a site called 'washingtonplumbers.com' and the main page was a directory type page that only listed 10 plumbers in the washington area. Then could charge local plumbers $15 per month for one of these 10 slots. Then could have more expensive ad space such as a top of the page banner, sidebar and beneath the main listing. This could potentially bring in much more than just renting the site out to 1 plumber.....
I imagine this would have a big selling point over other more generic directory type sites, as this one is focused on plumbers from the washington area and only lists 10 plumbers in the main listing, so they get more exposure than other directories etc, all great benefits when pitching to businesses.
Also, I guess it would be easier convincing a plumber in the area to part with $15-$50 per month than it might be to get them to rent an entire site for several hundred....
Anyone use this business model for your rental sites? any advice/tips?
Thanks,
Steve.
