Offline Yellow Page Costs?

One consideration I am using when charging potential clients is the cost of their current Yellow Pages advertising campaigns. Knowing the amount businesses are spending on Yellow Page ads is a great way to know what their expectations might be. Additionally I see three primary benefits:

1) It acts as a filter to remove businesses who are unwilling to spend money and/or don't see the value of advertising.

2) It gives a basis for determining the ROI of online services. I am assuming that the type of businesses I am interested in working with will be doing some kind of tracking of the Yellow Page prospects.

3) They would most likely see the value of a Google Places listing which could be used as an introduction for cold calling ... especially if they haven't claimed their listing.

That said, can anyone tell me what a typical full page Yellow Page ad costs?

A friend of mine has a bolded business name and phone number that costs about $135/mo or so in our area.

Also when doing Yellow Page research, it pays (pun intended) to have copies of all the Yellow Page directories being distributed in your area. I've found the ads/listings vary from directory to directory.

PS - I checked another friend of mines small business, and his business can't be found on Google Places, and his website ... uh ... needs some work . And he doesn't have a Yellow Page listing.

The more I research, the more incredible the opportunity that exists for getting businesses a better online presence.

The last yellow page ad I ran was around $1300 a year for like a 8th of a page. It included a small graphic and my website with ad tracking. no color. Just you basic ad. I think I ran it in 2007. I'm guessing the same ad would run for much higher now. Big part of why I no longer use phone book ads. Too expensive! Hope this helps.

The cost of Yellow Page advertising is not a secret. It varies from area to area. Simply call the advertising department listed in the YP book you are looking at.

Another thing to consider is "which" YP book is your client advertising in. Most areas have 2 and sometimes 3 secondary market books. It's common for a business to run a big campaign in the smaller books and just have a bold listing in the so-called "phone company" book.

When a prospect tells you they are in the yellow pages with a full page ad, it may mean he's spending a ton of money, or very little.

The most basic listing probably starts at like $150 a month. Something a tiny bit more than that will go for $300-$400 and if you want to be at the top of something, can be $1k per month and up.

They are insane. Not worth it.

I had a meeting with a dentist who had 2 full pages plus a smaller one and was spending $2500/mo. BTW this will help with having YP books online.

Thanks for the additional information. I'll be talking in the next few days with someone who has retired from one of the niches I'm pursuing, and he will also be able to provide some information.

In looking things up on the web, actual prices were almost non-existent and other information indicates that all prices are negotiable. So my question had more to do with what people were actually paying as opposed to posted rates.
