Is it necessary to have 550 words minimum posts after Panda ?

I had read about the Panda update and its implementation and had seen many drastic results at many sites which have no or poor content. My question is that is 550 words posts necessary to get good weight age in Google as recently almost every article directory had updated its limit to 550 for approval. Is any warrior here suffered from Panda ? Please reply to colloect more about that so that we can work with more care next time.

I personally do not think that there is a magic word count to keep G happy. Many directories were hit hard by Panda and are using new criteria such as increased word count as damage control. I have been marketing with content since 2004 and think that if you write quality articles that are informative and interesting and keep your reader in mind, you will have little to worry about when G decides to change the rules.

My question to you is are you writing for people or directories? If the answer is the later you may have additional problems with your strategy even beyond Panda. There are many great threads in this forum about article marketing, my suggestion is that you search for some and take notes. Basing your plan of action on sound advice from people who are marketing their content the right way will always bring greater success.

What is more valuable... having an article address an issue with a solution using only 300 words, or an article with fluff that has 700 words?

I don't believe a lot of the hype and myths around panda... a lot of internet marketers are paranoid and every new update is doomsday, because they aren't ranking on the first page.

NEWS FLASH.....Just because a site isn't ranking well doesn't mean it is penalized, it just means you suck at what you do.

I've heard between 500-600 words. Who really knows, but I always make sure I stay within this range.

I believe firmly that your content should be around 800-1000 words now. Part of the Panda update was to get rid of all the spam sites with crappy articles. Google profiled those statistically, and most of them are around the 300-500 word length.

This is where I have been unable to produce related results. Maybe it is true, but I have noticed that a lot of my "spam" sites have jumped up in the search engines. It is possible that I am lucky, wrong, or maybe I am on to something.

Google places importance on quality, relevant and important content. I don't believe that their definition of quality and relevant is by the word length.

In my experience, I believe google is judging relevant content by backlinks to the content. That explains why none of my sites were hit, because I believe in link pushing to be the best technique in SEO. Then again, I have never used the popular easy techniques a lot of people preach about on here... profile links, haven't been used by me in over 2 years now except for an experiment, and my prediction came to be true, in how useless they are for majority of the competition.

I thought it did go without saying that quality is of course a prerequisite.

@jtooter, If all the local sites had just 300-500 words on their pages Google would still "HAVE" to rank them, and if the only factor were the on page content and quality, obviously the pages written well would outrank those written not so well.

@ Iamnameless, I don't believe that Google judges quality by length of content however more content and quality will win out over less content and quality.

Of course this does seem hypocritical of me for saying this because I've ranked sites at the top of places for many months that haven't even been completely filled with content. Some pages only have an H1 tag in the page. lol

Yeah I have sites ranking #1 with completely unrelated content, just a title tag.

I still have problems believing that Google can judge what is quality content and what isn't. Some will say it is original content, but that is BS because I have article directories with 100% duplicate content and outranking the original sources.

It all comes back to, what is quality content in the eyes of google? I know they say relevant content, but I think that is just relevant backlinks to the content.

Anyway, enough of the thread jacking for me. LOL, I have a habit of doing that.

I think quality of content is more important and less the amount of words. Many business websites are not content heavy. If the word count per page was a factor, businesses would not rank making the SERPS less relevant.

Blogs I pay no attention to word length, only value of content. Articles, yes.

Saying that, I do try to get owners to write blog posts 550 or more...but only because if I dont tell them that, they write a sentence and expect me to rank it.

The right length of an article is partly dependent on how many words you need to make your point. The other part is based on how wide or narrow your topic is.

If your article is only 300 words long, usually your topic is way too narrow or you aren't adding anything much of value.

On the other hand, if you find your article is heading over the 1,000 word mark, it could be that you've picked a topic that's a little too broad to be covered in just one piece of content. In that case, either pick a narrower topic, or break it up into more than one article.

I like to try to keep my articles closer to 500-600 words, but not because of Google. It's because people can only consume so much information at once, especially on the internet. Just make sure you're not compromising quality just to fit a word count.

Yeah, my point on quality was to deflect the importance of quantity of words. Write good, relevant content not worrying about length and you'll do fine.

You need to understand what LSI is. Then you will get to know that articles of atleast 400-700 words will have a good number of keywords which you didn't even think of in the first place.

My articles are minimum of 500 words and the max depends on how much info I have collected and my knowledge on the topic.

I think it's still hard to tell how G-Panda works. Who knows, maybe the 550 word is indeed true. Maybe it's not. Only the people who work there knows how it really works. Still, I tend to submit content that are within this range just to make sure. Just make sure you don't stuff keywords and you'll be OK.

Two important factors Google is looking for is as follows:

Does this article provide a complete or comprehensive description of the topic?

Does this article contain insightful analysis or interesting information that is beyond obvious?

I'm sorry but I just don't see this happening in a 300 word post or article.

    Authentic content - human-like creation.
    Keyword density around 2-4%
    Domain authority or age
Google also checks the theme of ALL the content in the site as well as the authority of the other content in the site

But honestly, I don't think word counts as big of a killer as people make it out to be. I've seen 150 word articles be #1 on google in 90 million page markets (they're mine...)
