Has anyone done SEO work for a Golf course?!?!?

Hello fellow warriors...one of my good friends owns a golf course up in Minnesota (it's a shorter 18 hole public course). He's struggling to make money and is breaking even at best. Tough when your competing with longer courses and private country clubs.

Has anyone done any SEO, social media work, etc for a golf course?

I am wondering what would be the best and most cost effective way to help him out.

He has a website, but that's about it!

Any suggestions would be great!

Thanks!!

    Hi Mate,

Doing SEO for a golf course is no different.

    1. Do your keyword research
    2. See if its worth chasing.
    3. If worth chasing, choose the best keywords
    4. Consistently backlink to his website from quality sites
using your chosen keywords as the anchor text.
    5. Link to a site that has a call to action and a way
to gather details. (maybe enter name and email for a
    free round of golf)

This is a really quick reply based on the limited
    info that you have provided.

    Hope that helps?

The biggest bang for his buck will be to get a list of all golfers
in his area and mail postcards to them with a fantastic deal.

It will be up to him and the course to provide the experience for them
      to come back.

But getting them on the Course, that's the best way.

For under $50 he can get get a list of these golfers
      in his area from infofree.com.

He then can send out colored 6 x 11 postcards
for as little as .50 each from postcardmania.com

They'll advise on the best design and offers judging by what has worked
in the past, so the guessing is taken out of the equation.

Postcardmania promote their business by sending out 100,000
      postcards every week.

It's no coincident they do $20 million in annual sales.

      Best,
      Ewen

There are 2 types of people in this world....those who get it and those who don't. The ones that get it know exactly what we are talking about. The ones who don't are left scratching their heads.

Have him check w/ an insurance company to see how much a "hole in one" policy costs. Get a policy for whoever gets a hole in one (on the toughest hole must golf 18 holes wins $50k 100K or whatever prize. It'll be like hitting a lottery for a lucky golfer and attract a lot of attention. Local news shows will love to do a story on that too with continuous updates. put a webcam on the hole in one hole so people go to his website to look at the cam to watch anytime to see if anyone else gets close, and if someone does get a hole in one, you got it captured(that would prob lower insurance cost too). That will be one of the most played videos on the net and news. Imagine getting the reaction of the golfer who approaches the cup and realizes he/she just won 100k.

I live in MN and it is usually #1 or #2 in per capita rounds of golf played in the US.

Depending on where his course is, SEO could help. If its in a large metro area then people might do a search for golf options. If in more rural area, probably not. Best to promote events, business outings, bachelor party packages, mens/womens league, etc....

You mentioned its hard to compete w/ longer 18 hole courses. DONT compete. A shorter public course is perfect for beginners so he should focus on newer golfers and have great instructors, private/group lessons. Also, he can market to people who want to get a quick round in during the week or whatever. Focus on strengths. "You can get a round in, in 2 hrs! during week before dinner!" "New golfers welcome!"

Like a lot of people have already stated, picking the right keywords is a major key if you want his website to rank. But remember that the results for doing SEO for a website does not happen overnight. The results can take about weeks, or even months (if you're unlucky) to appear. In my opinion, SEO practices are a lot of trial and error to get the right results.
