I'd like to start a used car lot video sales business...Need Help!

Hi Everyone!

I have a video marketing business and would like to add used car dealerships as clients for ongoing income.

I'm having a hard time finding this info online. Any ideas on how much to charge for something like this...per car etc.?

I was thinking to charge $99 setup fee for a custom intro / outro with all contact info. This would be a template to use for each new car video listing.

Then charge maybe $50-$75 per each video. Where would I post these videos? Maybe just make the video and combine the custom intro and give them the finished product and have them post to where ever.

I don't know...I need Warrior help! I would like to get started on this next week! Sales is not a problem for me...I just need a solid, feasible plan to present.

I read that people are 2x's more likely to come in to the dealership after having viewed a video on the auto.

Also have another idea that could be big along this same line (with used car videos), but I need someone who is a web designer to collaborate with!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance fellow Warriors!!!

Funny. We're just considering doing the same thing. I planned on doing animoto style videos and I price those at a minimum of $30 in real estate if they pre-purchase 12 months worth of videos so was probably going to attempt a similar thing. So I guess I cant really contribute much but I'd be keen to see what others say too.

      Anne,
Some thoughts... Car dealers are tough to deal with as they use the most aggressive sales tactics around. You can't even imagine the things that go on within that Industry. With that being said...

Charge $197, $297 or $397 for set up fee intro-outro at least... I would go for $497 if it were me....

Then shoot for $30 to $40 a car...if you keep it around $30 you could expect bites in 10 car increments each week IMHO. Make them Pay up front in advance each week...If they won't pay don't work with them.

The car industry is a weird lot...and they don't mind spending money if you can show the value in the video service you offer in the form of ROI.

Show them some Beneficial Statistics...for Return on Investment...

You might be able to Get 10% more per sale per car using video or 5%
Offer to build them a Niche Site with the Video Listings... Ranking for very specific Keyword Phrases in their local market... Most car dealer sites are tough to navigate...

Everything we do is geared toward Keyword Niche Sites with Heavy Search traffic...We call them Advertising sites...

Hope that helps... Just TAKE ACTION and see what happens... the car dealer market will tell you fast what it want's.

As a man who has been in the industry for over 15 years and trains auto sales people all over the nation let me say, be careful not to stereo type car dealers and put them all in the same basket.

I do not have one dealer I work with as a trainer who lacks integrity. There are several dealers who are as you describe but several that are not.

To the question at hand, you will need to show tremendous value for what you offer. If you are going to charge more than $10 per car such as $30 or more as suggested, be prepared to show a $100 value for the $30 spent.

There are several ideas I could give on this subject. Dealers pay me thousands per day for my services. Send over a PM and I will send some ideas. I am currently marketing a workshop so it may be a bit before I can respond, but I will be glad to offer my help.

Dealers are very willing to spend money as long as you can show them the ROI. Video's of cars, especially used, are going to have to be priced very aggresively. Reason being for this is because of the high turn over rate of the used vehicles.

If the dealership is a new car franchise their guides for turning their used inventory are as follows
      * certified used vehicle of franchise make = 90 days
      * all other used vehicles = 60 days
This means that if the vehicle has not sold in that amount of time it will then be wholesaled or sent to auction, so they want as little invested as possible.

That being said I think most dealers wouldn't invest more than $20-25/vehicle to do something like this.

      Just my $0.02

I've had extensive experience with this in Florida(video, photos, inventory management). Make sure you have a great plan. There are big companies all over that offer proprietary software capable of accomplishing the work by basically taking the images and turning it into a decent slideshow with a computerized narrator. Problem is the dealerships don't want to pay. Some use in house guys that do bad jobs and then some have the same company for years. Hard to pull them away. They are in the stone age on marketing. At least most of them.

Here's a guy in my area (Oregon) who's been making a GOOD living since 1996 when he started his "Auto Service"....

NW Auto Page - Oregon Used Cars, Trucks, Autos, Motorcycles, RV's, For Sale

He's had the SAME 11 or 12 Dealers since '96. When I first met him (he wanted me to handle Southern Oregon) he was charging $25 per car.

For this he'd take 8 or 10 photos of each vehicle and post them on his site until sold. These are Digitals...not Videos. (My Opinion is....you don't need Videos)

However....one problemo....he visits EACH DEALER at the SAME TIME every week and....if you miss a week....you're OUT!

There were 2 companies selling Biz-Ops of making "Price Stickers" for car windows. Don't know if they're still doing this. They were getting $8/car. AND....if you miss a week....you LOSE the account so...ya wanna provide any kind of "weekly" service to Car Dealers....ya better plan on being there EVERY WEEK!

Thank you so much for all of your valuable input!

What do you think about a QR code for their current adverting that would link to a YT video with the salesperson giving the run down on the featured car?

That way I could charge $20 - $25 per car it would give potential buyers instant detailed info on the car of interest.

        Just an idea.

        Or...
Advertise on the window... text Camry99 to 12345 for more info on only the cars in the front row of dealership? That way they could capture the interested partie's info and follow up with special offers just for them.
