Just starting in offline marketing - what to charge for each service?

I have been doing websites for friends and other online business development services for them... basically never charging them.. so I'm not really sure on what is suitable to charge for everything.

I plan on charging premium prices for high quality work. Where is a good place to get a idea on what everyone else is charging? (besides competitors sites)

What are you all charging for your services?

there isnt a golden solution - consider the clients, what their budgets might be ie. plastic surgery has a higher budget than your local restaurant::
its better to work on a quote basis, and set your self a FROM price ie. custom websites from 200 etc; then figure out ho much time you need - either how much costs you have and set a margin; or how much time you take and decide how much you will charge per hour of work web dev can be around 20-80/h so depends on the quality you are offering!

Harrumph. I want to make a post about this and have it up there as a sticky.

Like I said in this post, and have reiterated and linked to many times thereafter:

How big of a problem is this website going to solve for your prospect?

Get them to define it and give the numbers, not you. What are they missing out on by not having this website? How many estimated new customers a month? How much is that worth over a year?

If the owner thinks it will draw another 10 customers a month who spend an average of $250, that's $2500 X 12 = $30,000 over a year.

Your website should be worth at least 10% of that, shouldn't it?

    ...

Get your prospect to define its value for you, and ask them what they think it's worth after they do that. There's no way they should go under a $1 investment for every $10 they make (this could be a great qualifier--if the prospect doesn't value your services, should you do business with them?).

Lifetime value (ie. they are going to have this site up for more than a year, almost assuredly) is also something to consider, but I find one year assessments most easy for people to understand.
Same goes for SMS, mobile sites, SEO, EDI, any kind of work that brings in more revenue or reduces ongoing costs.

Someone once told me this - Charge how much you can get away with.

    LOL!

Honestly charge what you think you are worth... I don't have set prices I usually analyze the project and base it on that... My main advice to you is dont do the same mistake i did when i was starting out, i undercharged because i felt weird about charging more so never under value your time and work

Very good point. I have been low balling it for some people I have recently talked to. I'm going to start valuing my time more.

Thanks to everyone else for the great information.

I don't know why so many people charge so low for web design ($200)

You are worth whatever you think you are worth, just don't low ball yourself. It wont even worth your time.
