Google Places and keyword research?

If I'm going to be setting up a client's Google Places page how many keywords can I really target with the initial setup of the Places? I mean before people would keyword stuff the name, categories, description, but since those are not allowed now how do you go about doing multiple keywords in as far as having their Places page rank for surrounding cities and the niche keywords?

So for example you have a chiropractor in City A. So would I just go in and fill in the description with my primary keyword and maybe 1-2 other related keywords and possibly add a few surrounding cities? I know we are not allowed to add cities or other long tails in the categories.

So a possible description would be "We are a full service chiropractor specializing in body pain relief and massage therapy serving City A as well as City B, City C, and surrounding communities."

Is that where we should focus our attention to getting the client to pop up in the 7 pack for several keywords or is there some other way to go about this?

Do you guys mention to your clients how many keywords you will optimize their GPlaces listings at first or not? How do you do your keyword research when optimizing GPlaces listings?

Here's what I do for the most part.

I target the main category that Google forces you to choose a and then after some search phrase research I create 4 custom categories based on my research. So the answer for me is 5.

After that you can start to target other related keywords and just optimize your site for them.

For additional cities you'd need content on your site related to those cities.
