Clients issue with Yelp Reviews????

A client of mine emailed me today wondering how to address this issue on Yelp:

Chris,
There are four really great reviews on Yelp that are not showing up...they only show up if you hit the "filtered reviews" at the bottom of the review page. And they are not counting those in my over all ratings....wtf is up with that?

I was reading something about how Yelp targets business's and calls them about having their bad listings removed if they upgrade to business's, do you think this has something to do with that?

Yelp's reviews flag a lot of real reviews.

Not much you can do about it.

Yelp has a strict policy to keep their editorial content separate from their paid advertisements. They have been challenged on this issue, even in class action lawsuits, and have prevailed.

While not the best system, the filtering is intended to prevent abuse for both negative reviews and positive reviews.

Reviews from Yelp users with a significant number of reviews tend not to be filtered.

Your recommendation to your client is to create an internal process where they ask happy customers to write a positive review for them. Some will be filtered, but some won't be.

Yelp makes it really difficult to get reviews to either new businesses and or new users who just sign up to leave a review.

That filter system is pretty horrible.

    Not much you can do.

If the reviewer has not been a yelp member for a few months and or left other reviews over a few weeks spread out, then they will probably be filtered no matter what you try.

    Other option:

Hire someone with a few seasoned Yelp accounts to post the legit reviews for your clients using their seasoned accounts.

Last I checked fiverr had a few people offering this service.

yea yelp is bad about filtering reviews. You could offer that as as service to him. Help him get a system to get reviews from clients. You just have to make sure they are a decent length and not fake.
