Hello all JV experts! I am thinking about possible JV's for a flowers and gardening store. Any suggestions?

Yeah, try a different niche. I would imagine most people still buy all of their gardening supplies at their local hardware store.

Can you elaborate more on what you plan on doing?

Yeah just as far as what would be a good related business to connect that type of niche with?

I owned a flower business for many years.
Flowers and plants are a very "local" business. Your best JV's in this case are other local businesses in the area and do some cross promotion. It gets extremely competitive once you go outside your local community in the flower world.
You can also do some local SEO and target surrounding communities. Google places was very big for us especially because we had many positive reviews.

Flowers are for the most part an emotionally fueled purchase... and many times are tied to a milestone event Birthdays, Anniversary's funerals, weddings, Mothers day, i love you etc.

Years ago when football legend Merlin Olsen was spokesman for FTD. He said something that stuck with me. "You don't sell flowers, you sell emotions"
And if you think about it, that's what every IM product, wso is selling. Emotions trigger almost everything we do and many times effect every decision we make good, bad or otherwise.

Unless they are really specializing in something high end like rare orchid varieties doing any type of JV with someone with a national or global list is more than likely a waste of time and resources.

    Hope that helps a little.

I haven't tried this but I know of a very successful shop in Florida that does this and when he told me, I absolutely loved the idea.

He made up a few thousand $10 gift cards and gave them to local businesses With window/counter signs. Like free flowers when you fill your tank/ with your dinner order/teeth cleaning/dry cleaning etc. It was a win win because the businesses giving them out were giving out a great gift to their customers and the shop has done extremely well.
Local businesses gave these out like crazy and he swears he gets several people in a day redeeming these cards. And he has them all join his mailing list when they redeem. Now he is a higher end shop where the average order is probably $60-75 so a lower end shop should test out different value gift cards so they are not giving away $10 bouquets all day long with no up sell.

This Idea can be applied to any business not just flowers.
