What is he best E-Commerce Platform for SEO?

Hi,

I have a client using Yahoo store but in my opinion it's complete junk in terms of SEO. So was looking at a possible migration to something like Magenta Go but not sure what the best system would be to migrate to.

1) So what are your thoughts on what is currently the best e-commerce platform from a seo point of view?
2) Also has anyway recently successfully done a migration from a yahoo store to another platform? If so I'd love to hear your feedback!

Look forward to hearing your thoughts

I don't know if Yahoo is good or not. I do know that there are several sites that I've shopped on that are Yahoo stores that I've found from google searches.

magento Go is not really seo friendly I have worked in the go and enterprise for my clients and there is some section you cant change the meta tags... i recommend you Volusion or 3Dcart they are really good for seo and have a lot of marketing that magento doesn't include.

I've used the Yahoo store platform many times and it ranks fine.

I have been able to get page one and even position 1's for many product keywords.

If SEO is the only reason you want to move from it I would suggest against it.

Big Commerce is great - I've found it easy to rank a client's site for many competitive keywords. Many no1 rankings, plus other extremely competitive terms are 4-9 rankings and increasing.

    Hi,

I use magento and it is also very SEO freindly. I don't use 'Magento Go' but the version I'm using does allow you change META tags such as: keywords, title, description.

You can also define what each and every page name should be. So, you can get your keywords in product as well as category pages.

No.. it definitely is not one of the best. It is mediocre at best. Nobody in ecommerce takes yahoo store seriously.

This is just plain inaccurate and false. If you know what you are doing you can edit the meta tags. Magento is the best and most complete ecommerce solution out there. 3DCart and Volusion is nothing in comparison.

Only inexperienced people use wordpress. Or internet marketers who mass develop websites.

Anyway, to the OP... Magento is the solution. It is very SEO friendly and is simply the best ecommerce platform as of right now.

Prestashop is very SEO friendly, but can be a little tricky to configure. It's a free ecommerce platform with very robust capabilities.

I setup, run and manage a number of eCommerce platforms for clients and in my experience there are two that stand out from the rest depending on wether you are willing to spend some money.

PAID has to go to BIG Commerce - the amount of control you have over every aspect of the store in terms of SEO and its automated product feeds etc make it seemless to configure. I use it for all my clients who are serious about selling products online - you can head over Freelancer and have a theme created for just short of $400 too.

FREE - OpenCart. It is simple in its structure and covers all the required aspects of an online store. If you take it a step further and install the new vMod development the 'Extensions' you can install cover all aspects of SEO - a very powrful tool. You can then head over to ThemeForest.net and get a premium theme to dress it up!

      Hope this helps!

Magento is a resource hog so you better have a top notch magento optimized server to get the speed you need as that script slows way down when you fill it with products...

Unless you are building a enterprise level cart and you probably aren't then Opencart would be the best way to go with a couple of mods it will seo very nicely and is extremely fast even with a ton of product loaded,, only bad thing is it is in constant development.

The other consideration is what the merchant needs as far as order, inventory, accounting and account management features.

Opencart for lower traffic ecommerce sites and Magento for higher traffic sites. Magento is much clunkier than just about any other platforms and usually requires at minimum a VPS. For SEO, both are pretty good.

A lot of people in this thread don't know what they're talking about. I've run webshops and I've worked as a consultant with eCommerce sites. I'd say Magento is the best choice, most developed, advanced and so on.

I recently chose Americommerce over Magento. Both a very deep in features...the tipping point for me was Americommerce seemed to have a slight edge in features/components, and the design customization gives me even more control than Magento ( and Magento gives you more control than just about everybody)

...and I'm talking about their real time wysiwyg editors...for dummies like me with no coding knowledge. In Americommerce I can manipulate pretty near every little layout component that a code geek can.

My current site has always been running on BigCommerce...and its fine for what its doing...but BigC is way way behind the 8-ball compared to Magento and Americommerce

I would not recommend you to move to magento go, its better to move to magento.
BigCommerce has full range of promotional functions, including SEO friendly URLs, coupons and gift certificates, promotional banners and wish lists, etc. But you can compare magento and wordpress shopping carts, which are more seo - friendlier. According the migration- check Cart2Cart service
