top niches to focus on from yellowpages.com?

Does anyone have a great local niche category list I can work off of, as I am trying to prospect paying advertisers on yellowpages.com?

I don't want to prospect dentists, lawyers, chiros, etc., who are getting bombarded by SEO companies daily, but I also don't want to call on tanning salons who may have a tighter budget.

Looking for some niches which may be flying under the radar a bit, with high customer value.

You might want to check the local newspaper...it's filled (or used to be) with local businesses who are spending money on advertising. The bigger the ad the more they spend and you can call the paper and get their rate card to see how much they're spending too...

Ive done well with builders, roofers, carpet layers, flooring specialists...

Very easy to speak to business owner instead of gatekeeper but the hardest thing i've found is changing the old school mindset which quite a lot of these business owners have. Its amazing that some of these people actually believe the internet is just a fad

I had a guy who owned an auto mechanics shop tell me he "didn't believe in the internet", I had a laugh with him and assured him that it did exist. The whole story is in my next WSO.

I worked for a mom and pop flooring shop for 6yrs and getting past the "old school mentality" as you put really is the toughest part. The owner believed that if he didn't. Read the publication, newspaper, or watch the show the ad ran during, that nobody else did either.

Luckily his son was much more open minded and we ended up getting a lot done...

I'd suggest startng with a company that spends on marketing already....and has a large number of repeat customers.
Most of them don't do email marketing.
Set up an effective email gathering/marketing coupon distribution campaign.
There's a lot of things that will yield profitable results

Quick positive measurable results will get setup fees...plus recurring income.......plus open doors other services.

I'm also interested in the same thing as OP except I'm more interested in niches that generally don't have gatekeepers/secretaries (my biggest obstacle in acquiring clients).

I think this is a problem with most people. Not the gatekeeper crap because gatekeepers are your friends... but the problem with people giving up on something in order to find something that fits their comfort level.

I'd recommend learning how to use gatekeepers to your advantage.

Personally, when I cold call and try to find some luck with prospects I typically use the actual paper version, and I search for a particular type of advertisement -- regardless of the niche.

I tend to personally look for average-looking ad spaces. Not the ones that blow me away with creativity, but not the terrible ones either. The AVERAGE ones, and specifically the ones with a web URL attached to the ad.

I then go to the website listed to check to see if the website looks out of date. If it looks even remotely unprofessional / outdated / plain I give the owner a call and let him know that his website seems a little outdated and I explain what services I am able to provide, etc.

The key is to emphasize how a re-design of their website will MAKE THEM MORE MONEY.

This is just the personal procedure I go through. Sometimes, if I'm looking at roofers per say, I'll just google "Roofers in London, Ontario" (my hometown) and I find the unprofessional websites, contact the owner, and so on.

I've had success personally with roofers, contractors, and small businesses of that sort. Lawyers and Dentists will give you larger monetary sales but I've found it's a lot harder to speak to the owners themselves as there's usually some form of secretary/intern/gatekeeper.

    Best of luck!

Plumbers and electricians. That's a pretty black and white niche. Either a big company, or a Joe the Plumber business. Just set an appointment in my first 23 calls to plumbers.
