P1, try checking with your local print shops and business service outlets. Also check with your local chamber of commerce. If they don't offer such a service (and they would be well positioned to do so), maybe they would be interested in starting one. $50/mo for an inbox + postage to forward mail beats having to pay $300-600/mo or more for a small office!

p.s. - Or, maybe you just found your next business concept.. ;o]

UPS store usually have po box with a regular address... i just got one my self and it's like this: 123 main st #456 town, state , zip

I am considering earth class mail for this service. They provide the virtual address as well as sorting services and even check deposits. They look like a solid service and offer several solutions.

I've been using the UPS Store for years, and it works great. However, you have to pay extra to have them forward mail if you ever stop. The USPS will not forward from them to your next address. Also, be sure to have one either very close to your home, or on a route you travel every day and anticipate doing so for years. Mine is too far from home, but I feel kind of stuck with it.

I've seen people get a UPS box and they call it a 'suite'. For example, their box number is 342 and they'll list their address as 123 Main st., Suite 342, Anytown, etc.

You can check Craigslist under office/commercial for virtual office space. These are usually office suites which will allow you to use office space and conference rooms on an hourly basis. You can also use them as a mailing address only. The fees are usually just a little bit more expensive that a UPS store mailbox, but they offer more services. Plus, if someone Googles your mailing address they will see a nice office building instead of a UPS store.

A person I worked for before has done UPS Store and really liked it. We have many in my Area. I'm considering going in with someone on a virtual office space, I like the idea of having an office space and conference room to use if I need to meet clients.

I have a gold card and have office space anywhere in the world they have an office...if you need a physical mailing address that is offered too but I believe the price is somewhat high.

Do you use your home address for everything? I'm asking because I am trying to figure out a solution to the mailing address and I don't think I'd mind using my home address as many people do work from home nowadays, but I don't want to look sketchy. I have dog, so I'm not too worried about angry customers showing up.

Any thoughts on this?

Servcorps.

I have a receptionist, a "premier office space" , I can use it so many hours a month. I can use the board room so many hours a month. I can use any one of their offices in any major cities. My mail goes to them. Full use of executive lounges and suites.

If you need to use it more than the allotted time of the rental, it's charged per hour. We never go over because we simply do not need it that much yet.

It has been used to meet with clients locally that are "bigger players" in D.C. (our office is right by the white house, literally can throw a rock on the north lawn).

It's legit, love it so far.

It's just too creepy to use your home address. Especially in the age of Google street view where someone can Google your address and be looking in your front window.

All the brave talk is nice "who cares" "I'm not afraid of weirdos" "I have a dog" etc. But the fact is, it's a crazy world out there and all that talk will go out the window when some weirdo shows up on your doorstep.

I have a wife and kids so blasting my home address everywhere I do business on the internet is simply out of the question.

Get a UPS Store address and write it off as a business expense, and move on.

One of my clients offers virtual office services: TheBoardroomSuites.com.

Here are some of the reasons:

When someone googles your business address, what do they see?
- Your house? If it's really nice they might think you charge too much. If it's modest, they may think you're not very good.
- A Mail Box place? This used to work before Google Places. Just call it "Suite 244" and you were good to go. Google wants you to be able to have a meeting. Tough to do at a mail drop.
- A Beautiful Office Building? Definitely a nice first impression.
One bookkeeper told me that a client appeared at her doorstop at 7PM on a Sunday night to ask her a QuickBooks question. She was in her pajamas watching a movie. That caused her to get a virtual office.

A virtual office gives you ability to use a conference room for important meetings. Forget about coffee shops! How much is a new client worth to you? A virtual office and even a full-time executive office can easily pay for itself.

  I just decided to renew my PO Box. I'm still just starting out and all the $20/month here and $40/month here is really adding up. I can always keep the PO Box even after I move to a real office. I think with the updates I cannot use the street address of the post office and ste# tactic anymore on Google Places, but that's OK...for now.
  
  And I just want to clarify, I wasn't using the dog as a way to be flippant, but rather I was torn because I feel if you're doing good business then it doesn't matter that you work from home. Lots of people do nowadays. However, as a single parent I have to be careful. Even though I'm trying to be on the up and up, it doesn't mean potential clients are.

One trick is to use 555 Here Street, Suite 500, City, State...blah blah....but these have been houses. If its an apartment just use Suite <apt #>.

Sounds commercial.

Been looking for commercial space myself and I know a few of the newer places in canada at least, have a virtual option (mail and able to rent space for a day if required. If regus was in my town I would use them.

Don't feel bad about using a PO box. There are large businesses where if you want to communicate with them by mail, or mail them a check, you have to send it to their PO box. There is no shame in using a PO box.

My preference is co-working/hot-desking type setups. They have a good startup/incubator style vibe, and they can be very cost effective. Also, if you are using this for Google Places, IMO they are fairly off the radar as they are usually one offs and not big brands like UPS or Regus. You will attract less attention from local competitors too. Finally, they often have mail boxes if that is all you need, and I have rented them for as low as 20/mo. Good luck.
