Cleaning UP the Mess (Google Places)

2 replies
Hey guys and gals,

Ive acquired a client in the heating and cooling,plumbing,home-remodeling business. Has three domains, 2 addresses and is all over the place except in google places. I think he has been sand boxed because of all the inconsistencies.

He does have a couple keywords on the first page of google, but can't be found in places in any field.

What would be your opinion on getting his business back on track, I have informed him it will take a while.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance,
Tony

    So the ideal layout for Google places is as follows:

    One Places listing for each physical address. If you know the correct address, go to List Your Business on Google Maps, Yahoo Local & More | GetListed.org and get them all fixed.

    One website (domain) for the service on GP. If he offers multiple services you can place those under the "more info" on the places page and also have pictures/videos that describe the other services.

    It might be wise to consolidate all the domains into one master site and 301 redirect the other two to point to the main one's subdirectories, like:

    bobsplumbing.com
    bobselectrical.com
    bobsconstruction.com

    Pick out the one that has the most current SEO power (domain age, backlinks, PR, etc) and 301 the other two, you'll end up with something like this:

    bobsplumbing.com
    bobselectical.com -> bobsplumbing.com/electrical-services/
    bobsconstruction.com -> bobsplumbing.com/construction-services/

    Edit to point out that we do 301 redirects so that minimal SEO power is lost between domains.

    Focus all reviews for all the businesses both on one page of the website: bobsplumbing.com/reviews/ and also on the GP page. Get customers to put reviews on the GP page first - then you can copy them to your website or do whatever else you want to with them.

    If he has two places pages, or more: pick out the one that reflects his current, correct address and merge the other one with it. Do not start over with a new GP page, you will hate yourself.

    Thank you very, very much Mike!

    You have given me a structured plan on what to do.

    I hope this helps anyone else with this situation in the future.
