Why a reseller account for hosting

I have been wondering lately why use a reseller account for hosting?

I use blue-host for my websites but wondering if I were to build local businesses websites, why can't I use my personal hosting since I get unlimited domain hosting?

I am sure there is a valid reason, just not sure why.

Thanks.

If you're going to be managing the sites (i.e. they don't need to log into their own hosting account) you should be fine. Someone correct me if I'm wrong!

Sometimes there is a query and connection limit per cpanel depending on the host you have. For organization purposes a reseller is the way to go!

I have a few regular shared hosting accounts, a reseller, and a semi dedicated. The few shared hosting are okay, for very low traffic websites but have been moving all of them to the dedicated or reseller.

Technically, you can't resell shared hosting.. but you can resell the reseller hosting, even though reseller accounts are just glorified shared servers too lol.

I started out with just a shared hosting plan that was "unlimited". It is possible for you to start out with that too but I always prefer having people on a reseller. Much easier to monitor.

Another big plus of having a reseller account and creating different cpanel's for your clients, is security. Most people who have been doing this and have over 20 clients usually experience a problem with malware or harmful scripts injected into the site. You don't want that to effect ALL the sites in a shared server. I made that mistake before and it is hell dealing with that.

I use reseller hosting for all my websites because I am publishing a great deal of content on a daily basis so I need the extra bandwidth. But if the businesses you are targeting are only static sites with a couple pages you should be ok. The only issue I can see is if the big G isn't happy about something on one of those sites they will all end up in the sandbox including your original, so from a risk management perspective I'd keep this in mind.

    1) unlimited hosting isn't real. You get inodes, and each inode represents an image, text file, HTML file, etc. You can find this in the terms of service.

    2) with a reseller account, you are able to hand out CPanel controls to the websites you host. Unless you find some dumb people, they will want to control their own websites.

    3) you are not legally able to sell Blue-Host's services without a reseller account.

I am sure there are other reasons.

Big thanks for the excellent advice! I learned some things that has me now realising that reseller is definitely the way to go. If someone was starting out with 1 or 2 site projects and on a really limited budget, I guess they might be better off just signing the client up to some cheap hosting one by one (rather than hosting a few sites on one account).

      Hi everybody,
      What is your buisness ?.
Do you want to sell hosting, websites or your web design skills.

1)If you want to sell hosting , reseller.
2)If you want to sell websites or other products, ecomerce plan.
3)If you are selling your skills, then be an affiliate have your clients click through and sign up.

If there is an O.S member here,i am curious ?

      Are these statements correct

One account multiple domains, one process multiple threads ?
Example if you have two people editing there site each control panel would share a process but have their own thread.

Multiple accounts multiple domains each one runs in their own process.
      Cheers,
