Live networking events?

Hi everyone,

I'm interested in hearing about people's experiences with live networking events, whether related to your niche or more formal leads groups such as Business Networking International (BNI.)

In my experience, it takes a while to build relationships and rapport but it can really work well especially for those of us offering services such as consulting or coaching.

Blessings,
Stephanie

One thing that I've seen work really well, is rather than put your name the stick on name tags, make your name:

    Facebook

    or

    Text Messaging

    or

    Sales Creator

I've seen this done many times, and it works like a charm. People can't help but say, "why is your name Facebook?" It gets the conversation going.

While it's a bit goofy, the important point is to figure out how to help others. I've had most luck trying to understand others, their current objectives and pain points in their business... and...

TAKING GENUINE INTEREST in them and trying to help them.

Not "trying to help them," as-in, trying to sell them something. But again, getting permission to form a relationship and stay in touch. The path is like this:

Stranger --> Friend --> Potential Client

I've started attending networking events just a couple weeks ago and it's extremely valuable. I got started by becoming more active on LinkedIn (specifically in my local market). Join local groups and you'll start getting invites to events you probably wouldn't of known about if it weren't for LinkedIn.

You'll find that there are different cliques locally and each networking event is different than the next. So it's very important to review who your target clients are and then figure out which events they go to.

Also your goal shouldn't be to sell at networking events, rather it should be to meet new people and start building relationships with local business owners, managers, and fellow marketing professionals. Do this and a whole world of opportunities will open up to you.

Well said. Also, the goal should not to to hand out or collect as many business cards as possible. Focus on building relationships with a handful of people, and work between events to cultivate those relationships without necessarily trying to give them the hard sell.

      Peace,
