AAARG!! GP is driving me nuts!! Help...

I am distraught with frustration. Seems like I'm just spinning my wheels and my client is losing confidence in me by the day!!

I was really hoping that someone might have inside information on this:

I tried to claim a places listing for my client about 6 weeks ago. Did the postcard verification three weeks ago. Google said it would be 24 hrs after that... nothing.

Sent Google 3 emails requesting a response to this... still nothing!

I'm wondering maybe because my client moved his business to a different location in the same town a few years back and having to claim and verify under his new address is now causing problems with G.

Or maybe I need to get some citation sites in line with his new address in order for them to complete the verification? (I just checked, 95% of the citation sites have the previous address and old phone number.)

But why doesn't G a least get back to me? Is there a help line for GP?

Has anybody had this kind of problem before??

    What does "nothing" mean?

No. Claiming and activating a places page has nothing to do with citations.

Sigh. If he moved to a new location in the same city you do not want to "fix" the old citations. You want to create new citations.

    1. Go to the big 8 citation directories and mark the old location as closed or whatever.

    2. Go to List Your Business on Google Maps, Yahoo Local & More | GetListed.org and make new citations for his current place of business.

Oddly enough if you google "google places support" the first result should help you.

    No.

On a semi-related note: a lot of people I give Google Places tips to on this forum PM me later on asking for more help. Please don't be one of those people. You obviously don't have a very good grasp of GP and unless you're going to pay me to manage this account for you then I don't have any interest in giving you any further assistance.

I didn’t think so, just taking a desperate stab in the dark.

Actually, some citations have raving customer reviews, so why no try to “fix” them?

YES, awesome resource Mike, MANY THANKS!

I discovered that my client has 3 listings in Google, only one is correct. But that’s not the one that shows up when I do a search.

Been through that, believe me. Anyway, with the discovery of the additional listings I have some direction.

    • Nope no help line.

If you were saying you optimized the listing but nothing changed on the Place page?

Descriptions currently take 6 - 10 weeks to show up.

Images currently there is a glitch and most aren't showing up.

The additional details at bottom no longer show at all.

Some other details take 6 - 10 weeks.

So brand new listings can look pretty bare for awhile and it
takes a few weeks for them to mature in the index and start ranking.

So from now on just let clients know this in advance to set appropriate expectations.

Multiple listings for a business will prevent the listing from showing up. Claim those other listings and suspend them displaying in GP.
