How many Google Local Listings can a company have?

I ran across a local landscaping company that had three local listings that I could find. On one of the Places Scout videos one of the businesses in the background had 33 videos! How can that be done? I thought each listing only allowed 5 videos. So that company had 7 local listings then?

My next question is I see some listings that have a few reveiws but no stars, then I see others with a few reveiws with stars. What gives them the stars as I see those are the ones that are getting the higher rankings, at least for that search.

If they have 5 or more reviews, they will get stars. You are allowed to have as many listings as you want as long as they are each at a different location with a different phone number.

Yep, otherwise franchises at different addresses wouldn't show up.

1 listing for each real brick and mortar location.

There are plenty of businesses who have broken or bent this rule but it's just a matter of time before they get delisted (and good luck getting back in once that happens).

Remember that in google maps google is ranking based on two major factors...location and business type.

So their algorithm and their policing is going to be based very heavily around those two factors.

If you try to cheat the system by trying to list one business with one physical location multiple times in different locations etc etc it's just a matter of time before an algorithm change catches you.

        Kindest regards,

    1) There are many possible reasons why the company had 3 listings. One is what Catalyst said - these are duplicates automatically created by Google. However, depending on the situation, it might be allowed for a few businesses to have listings at the same location. These are the likes of physicians, dentists, attorneys, realtors, etc.

    2) Videos might get "attached" to a listing if Google found them on YouTube and associated them with the business. The easiest way for this to happen is if they are geo-tagged

    3) The threshold for showing the ratings in the search results WAS 5 reviews. Now with the transition to Google+ Local the only way to get the ratings snippet showing up in the organic results is via hReview mark up on your website.
