ROI ??? - Direct leads and sales using Local SEO

Hey Guys,

Pretty new here but am determined to take action on my local SEO business. You can never fail if you don't ever give up right?

The main question I keep trying to answer internally is in regards to showing tangible results for SEO clients. The one thing I keep asking myself if I were the customer is:

"If I pay this guy $500/month to rank me #1/top 3/first page in google, how do I know that advertising will turn into phone calls and leads?"

I was hoping some of you may have a good answer as I don't want to get into Local SEO to scam local business, I believe in today's advertising industry it can be really effective and help boost sales for a company if done right. I just want to be able to show my customers that. Thanks in advance!

Ronan

Always track everything. There's no point in having a marketing system and advertise if you're not tracking. Might as well just throw your money away because you will never know what works and what doesn't, what needs to be modified/optimized and what you need to get rid of altogether.

In this case, get the stats and hits of the website of the business owner you're going to work with. And then with your services (SEO), after you rank the site where you claimed you would, show the new amount of traffic you got. Compare the traffic before and after.

When his clients/prospects call, make sure the receptionist or business owner asks how they found his business, and keep track of that as well.

Have some sort of coupon or promotion in the website that tell the prospect to mention it, or print it out, and take it to the business owner's place when ready to buy. Track.

If they run a promotion, ads in yellow pages, newspapers, radio, etc, make a landing page for each so you always know where the traffic is coming from.

Make sure his site converts, change the copy, opt-in offer, and tell him that the prospects that opt-in he can market to with new offers, increasing the value of each customer.

What if the prospective client currently does not have google analytics installed on their websites and/or has no measuring stick of how their website is doing? But yes I agree, if I can show them their traffic before and after using my services and can add a lead capture, coupon, phone number, etc I think I will be able to show them effective results.

First... you can fail if you keep doing the same thing over and over again while expecting a different result Success is perseverance AND constant improvement.

Find out how many calls they get from the website now and how much traffic it has. Do some estimates on what the new SEO ranking would mean in terms of customers.

If their website isn't converting then suggest they get that part of the bottleneck fixed as well. This is part of how I make my living and is a service that isn't offered very much... huge potential there.

If you are looking to track phone numbers, and it is a concern:

Get a number ($1 from twillio), have it forwarded to their company (you will need openvbx installed to forward it, at least what I do). Change the title tag to have the number in it when you do their on-page SEO. You can track the calls that way to further enhance the proof. So the title may look something like Niche + City | Call Numberhere <-- that way it shows in the SERPS.

If they are paying you to do SEO, and you get them in the top#3, you have done your job for the most part. A few of my clients actually the customers that call in "How did you find us" , and they are happy to hear "I typed in niche + city and found your website and called" ..

The client needs to be able to measure conversions first of all. Otherwise, the traffic means nothing to them.

Make sure their analytics are set-up, and *show* them where this conversion data is, related to SEO traffic coming their way. In GA, it's the "Ecommerce" tab, related to Organic traffic.

If the code isn't set up to track, that could be an additional ancillary revenue source for yourself to charge for, or freebie value-added bone you toss them.
