Offline Marketers - Have Clients That Insist On Sending Hard Checks?

I like to travel. I intend to do more of it once I get this second business up and running. However, in the event that one of my clients insists on paying by check, what options do I have for depositing that check if I am out of the country?

Seems simple, I know, but it may be a real concern for me in the future. I was just thinking that there may be a solution that I haven't yet considered.

Thanks.

Electronic Check conversion via Authorize.net or other gateway. you simply retain the check for your records and input the info into the web interface and the check is converted into an ACH Transaction and funds will be deposited within 48 hrs.

    Interesting.

Is this something that would require me to have the actual hard check on hand, or would having a scanned copy suffice?

Umm maybe have them send it to a PO BOX and when you are traveling see if a family member or someone will check that PO BOX for you and deposit the check. Of course it would need to be someone that is very trustworthy.

    That's always an option.

This can be hard to do sometimes if the you do not have an account at the same place. It is called a third party transfer and when i did rent collection in a previous life, it presented a huge issue with some banks. Make sure to confirm with your bank if a third party can deposit for you.

I have no agenda but to help those in the same situation. This I feel will pay the bills.

You mean, have them endorse it with my signature? Although I will have a business account for my LLC, I don't plan on having anyone else associated with that account.

In banking terminology....it's what is called a "Special Endorsement"...no they are not forging your signature...they just write down "For Deposit Only Your Business Name Your Acct #" The deposit is guaranteed.

Notice that the previous poster said have someone you trust deposit the check for you (read you have to give them your acct #). They wouldnt be able to go up and ask the teller to look it up. Anyone can deposit funds into your acct if they have the #....now taking it out is a whole lot harder....easy to put in, much more difficult to take out.

To make this even simpler, order a "For Deposit Only" stamper from your bank, about $15.

Have someone pickup your check, stamp the back (For Deposit Only), go to bank, have teller give them a Deposit form, write down account number, include check, DONE!

That's how I do all my checks, I never sign. Most offline businesses pay by Hard check so get used to it.

Umm if you're the only one associated with the account then you'll probably just want to ask you bank the best way to make this work. I'm sure they can come up with something for you.

I say just dont take the guy on as a client...

I have this philosophy that when I'm in business for myself, I will take on only as much hassle as I want to.

If I know I'm going to be away a lot it wont be worth the hassle to take on someone who doesn't want to cooperate with my accepted forms of payment. Less Money? Yes Less Stress? Hellll Yes!

I've been traveling for 4 months and I do exactly what rainingporblems said. I have them send it to my office and have one of my guys deposit it to my bank by writing "For Deposit Only"

      Hope that helps.

I respect your philosophy but some small business owners aren't comfortable with paying online. Like my dad & mom they never bought anything online so if anyone wanted to have them pay online that clearly wouldn't work.

Can I just throw in a question that may be a lil off topic but related?

Are your clients more likely to write out a check in your name or in your business name?

You can find companies that do payment processing, they are used to handle real estate rental payments all the time.

    Simple.

Go to your bank and ask about receiving checks through the mail. Many banks will have an option where for a monthly fee, you can have any check mailed to your bank and they will deposit it for you.
