Hey what is up,

My Offline SEO business is doing pretty well right now and I have some cash laying around. Has anyone ever used the local radio or TV with any success?

Anyone strongly against this?

I have tried both and biz owners did not respond. I admit that at the time I didnt know what I know now so my call to action could have been stronger.

As far as radio goes I was promoting to a mainly consumer audience ,rather than B2B, I knew that ahead of time, however I was expecting more biz owners to hear the stuff I was talking about and want to know more.

I do believe some guys are kicking butt with seo type services on selected AM/Talk Radio formats where the biz crowd is higher.I say this because good friend who listens to those channels always asks me "what do you know about so and so, I keep hearing their ads" I always say never heard of them but probably offering some overpriced service.

You may have some success here with the right message. Call recorded message for free report type thing.

Tv was a total waste. But now I think it might work if you can take advantage of cheap ads from Google tV ads because the slots you buy can be so much more targeted.

But I would love to see you try and report some positive results. I am willing to try those mediums again in the future since I have a little, stressing little, more knowledge now than before.

I do not think that the effect of television advertising SEO results will tenth.
After all, today's young people have rarely watch TV.

Why not invest in a large post card campaign in lieu of TV/Radio?

No experience on TV/Radio, but drumming up a nice post card campaign right now, I intend to send over a period of 6 weeks.

Or, you can just put that extra cash on red 28, it's what I would do.

I can tell you from experience that Radio will generally not work for B2B unless its laser targeted, and even then...not very good.

TV can work if very tightly targeted however if you attempt to purchase general response inventory you will go broke!

Purchase Direct Response Inventory and go with Networks that are more news & business related with a strong call to action.

I've noticed that there are a lot of B2B ads on talk radio and not a lot on popular music stations. I don't know how much value that adds to this conversation but I'm guessing that there are a lot more business owners listening to talk radio out there.

Have you checked what local prices are like during Hannity, Beck, or some of the other talk radio guys?

They work, and work quite well. :-)

They key is you must treat them like direct response, and within 60 seconds,
create a pretty compelling ad copy, that speaks directly to that audience, and
    is voiced well.

    eg:

"Are you a business owner who owns a web site? Many web sites??

Do you want to sell more of your services using the web, and cut your
    expensive and wasted advertising costs?

    etc...

MaxRef is correct. You must use them as direct response. Make offer. Close for an opt-in action.

I filled an 1-800 voicemail box every week doing this in the early nineties. You can use a live call center pretty cheaply now and a website with landing page opt-in for your special offer.

Nevertheless, I agree with TopKat22 and others here. A direct response targeted postcard campaign would be much more profitable. Use the free press release and interviews for local papers. You'll be surprised how much traffic this produces.

I agree. Go for the postcard/direct mail approach instead. That way, you can get more targeted prospects rather than opting for the mass media approach.

Radio and TV definitely works, but you can't expect to just have a few 30 second spots and bring in money to boost your ROI. It comes with A LOT of repetition and testing/tracking. There are many things like the market, timing of the commercials, short vs. long spots, etc.

I would suggest you have more than just a little cash lying around because if it doesn't work out during your first campaign, you need to be able to test and see what is working and what isn't. (i.e., you had a positive ROI on SPIKE TV, but a negative ROI on A&E) That is where the true money will come in.

Why would ANYBODY in their RIGHT mind do TV and RADIO ads...when being INTERVIEWED on (talk) radio and tv news about your business...is FREE?!?   People pay MORE attention to a STORY because they can CONNECT (which instantly builds trust!)...than an AD trying to SELL them something! ;-)

Here is a piece written by Scott Fox: Author of:
"How to Find Radio Guests, Talk Show and Podcast Interview Guest Experts - Free!"

How to get radio interviews is a common public relations question, especially for authors, experts, and marketers. You can get booked for free radio publicity interviews as an interview guest to promote your product or book on radio show interviews, if you follow these steps:

        1. Identify radio shows that book guest experts like you for interviews:
The fastest way to do this is to search on Google using search terms like "radio talk show"+ "your topic". (NOTE: You want to search on "talk radio" rather than just "radio" to find shows that book guest experts for promotional interviews instead of only playing music!)

        2. Find contact info for the radio show's producers or bookers:
Big, nationally-syndicated talk radio shows have a staff of producers. The best producers to reach are those that find and schedule expert guests and authors for on the air interviews. These producers are called "bookers". For smaller or local radio shows or Internet radio podcasts, the booker, the producers, and the host may all be the same person.

        3. Create and send a targeted pitch:
You need to e-mail, fax, FedEx, Tweet or call the producers to offer your expertise and information. Remember that they are not interested in you, your book, or your products. Their goal is to find interesting new information that educates and/or entertains their audience. Your job is to craft a pitch that gets their attention. To get radio interviews, your radio interview pitch should offer helpful details of your expertise that fit into their current radio show programming needs.

This is the route I would take as opposed to wasting (basically throwing AWAY) money to be seen and never really knowing the benefits. So, pick your poison. Eat...or get eaten. It's your choice! :p

By doing interviews, you are creating yourself as the go to or come to guy whom they want to do business with...and when you put that you have done radio or tv...now you've really piqued their interest to want to talk to you because now they think you're important. Suddenly a *somebody!*

Depending on where you live and how your cable system allocates its subscribers, tv might be an option. Almost all cable systems have zoned advertising. Some have channel options that run in all zones and can be quite effective if you are lucky.

Here's what I mean by lucky. Some cable systems have a weather/traffic channel that runs throughout the system. If you buy :30 spots and are lucky enough to be running when there's a really bad storm or traffic problem.

Other than that, a "little extra cash" would be better spent in Vegas. With TV, if you can't "own" the market, it's almost a waste.

Although I've not done radio or TV for SEO or IM services, I did do it for my other businesses in many markets across the US and it was never as cost effective as direct mail.

I think that radio and tv is good for consumer brand awareness or for direct consumer type marketing.

I've never seen it work too well with B2B products/services. Even public radio and talk shows did not give a good ROI not as good as US mail.

And actually, of all the mail pieces we hired multiple reputable firms to create for us, the best conversion was a simple, 3 color on regular paper (not glossy), trifold with a bold red headline to get them to open it and in the three folds, on the left was FAQ, in the middle was the main promo and on the right was a very simple, not hypy or too many words, call to action, like "call us today."

We tested this all over the country with every combination you can imagine and this is what worked the best. It increased our conversions by 1000%.

We also only mailed it to homes in income brackets in the high middle to low high for that area.

Hey Keep in Mind Radio + Tv advertises to general public. You will get alot of impressions but little conversions. If you want to advertise via tv or radio Look into a CPA offer for example that appeals to the general public. For Example Now Is Tax Time , So You Can Promote Tax Pro or cut whatever its called and link it to your site with a redirect page take consumer to tax pro's website with your Aff link.

Coming from a traditional advertising background, I wouldn't do TV. The reason is to make a dent in TV requires a major amount of impressions, and that would cost a fortune. Radio might work if you hit the right audience.

I dont listen to commercial tv/radio, mostly because the ads are worse than fingernails on a chalkboard. It might fit some niches, but the demographics I imagine are not the most targeted, nor intelligent.

    TV advertising comes down to:
    1. What the channel's viewership is
    2. What time of the day your ad a ran (5-8 is the best time and also most expensive)
    3. The quality of your ad. Does it have stopping power? Is it memorable?
How many times is there a call to action.

TV advertising is the holy grail of all marketing. It combines visual elements
with audio elements. The best way to get your message across.

TV can be hard to connect with your audience, make sure you know the market of the channel VERY well before you start a campaign, I laugh at how out of touch some of the ads I see are compared to the viewer ship that watch that channel.

100% agreed, any success you find on radio and tv can be multiplied online and divided in price quite significantly.
